Padlock Shims?

Has anybody used these, cause I have heard arguements were they dont work?

And it says "They are designed to open laminated type padlocks, the most common variety of padlock used today but they will open any lock that has a spring operated lever latch."
What is a laminated type padlock?

Yes, they work. A Master #3 is an example of a laminated padlock. Do a google search for a picture.

They work well on cheap locks, the better locks cannot be shimmed. What are you trying to shim?

A laminated lock is a lock made from layers of metal instead of a cast body.

Well its a masterlock, that I cannot seem to pick. Looks exactly like this

no, it doesn't. It will look exactly like whatever one you have in your possession. The reason I put it like that is we're a bit wary when someone asks how to get through a specific lock, without showing the lock in question.

We need to know that you own it and why you need it open.

First off, save your money. If you have a legitamate reason to open said lock, this site has the answers. Please take a picture of your lock and post it along with the story behind why you need it opened. I have found a couple ways to get a similer lock open that I'd like to put out there and see if you have any luck with what I've found.

Perfectly understandable.

(Sorry its such bad quality. I had to take the picture with the camera on my phone. My digital camera software doesn't work with this new Vista based computer. Which is also the reason I just found a picture of it off the Internet; instead of going through the hassle of using my phone and walking around trying to find service in my house so I can send it to my email.)

Well there is the lock. The reason is because I obviously lost my key, and I would like to get some of my video equipment out of the chest without damaging it.

I think that model of Master Lock uses security pins in them. They always give me trouble when trying to pick it so if you're not a experienced picker a shim might be your better option.

Buy yourself a set of bolt crops, and chop through the shackle. Far easier.
That way, we know you aren't being too clever.

Then you can learn to pick the remains, and put a new padlock on your trunk.
