Is it possible to make a bump key that is compatible for both 4-pin and 5-pin laminated Master Locks (#3 and #21 etc.)?
My thinking is that, if the spacing between the teeth are about the same, it should work?
I made a #3 bump key, and it works great on most of my #3 and #5 locks. I just think it would be handy to have a "master" bump key that would work on most laminated master locks.
Has anyone else created/know of keys like this?
Thanks!

I've read it is possible to make a 5 pin bump key work on a 6 pin...so I guess the same applies here.....as long as the key way is the same..

If you take a bit of brass off the shoulder of the key and use the negative shoulder method of bumping then yes, it can be done. The ramp at the very tip of the key will make contact with the 5th pin if the key is for a 4 pin lock.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

Good luck with existing Master products....because all Master padlocks from August will be made with the new bump stop technology.
The claim by Master is that the locks are 99.99% bump resistant. They stopped just short of bump proof???????
The theory is promising altho the reduction of pin changes substantially reduces the quantity of differing keys.
You can almost back it....that the big box stores will be selling KA versions...so it is likely that if you purchase 1 padlock from each big box store...it is very possible, if not likely that you will have a key for just about any of that version.....forget bumping....just try one of your half a dozen keys on your ring.

I read about that in a article in TNL for this month. Just when I get my hands on the new Kwikset, Master comes out with their own bump resistant product. This is gonna be a busy year.

You could also make a bump key out of the 5 pin key, then you can use both the pull out method and the minimal movement.

I've tried that with a Schlage lock (my favorite for bumping) and it works extremely well. I don't think its totally necessary but it does work.

cant wait to try to pick one of those bump resistant, with the addeed tapered pin, i wounder if it'll feel like setting a spool pin with the extra little force than setting normal pins.

I think Master said it provides more pick resistance along with bump resistance. And this special driver is designed to really dig in and snag on the pin chamber wall if I remember the article correctly so it should be a lot of fun.

i would feel that you would have to set that special top pin first before the others, but i'll see when it comes out, you said august.
