Just a quick note to find out if there are any real locksmiths on this site.
Secondly if there are any members in Australia.

seek and ye shall find.

lurk and the door shall be opened unto you..

good to see another aussie - there's quite a few of us. just going on gut
feeling, I think the population on this site seems to be USA followed by
Cannada, followed by Australia but don't know for sure - there was a poll
on location a while ago, but I won't tell you where it is so you can practice
your searching skills. ;)
Oh look! it's 2016!

I know of at least 10 people who are locksmiths either full time or part time who have been doing it for a while and who I would count as a locksmith. A few of these are located in Australia. I will not list them as I would prefer to give them the chance to post for themselves. Also if you browse the forum on more advanced topics you will normally work out who is a locksmith, advanced hobbiest or just FOS.

There are mostly beginners from australia on here with very few exceptions. I am a beginner for your information. I would say there are about 4-5 people from australia who post regularly with about 20-30 people who have registered being form australia. I normally just do a search for "australia".

There is a "what is your location" thread and a "please introduce yourself here" thread I would do a search for them and they will give you a good list of who is from where.

I have to disagree as as his posts show his knowledge on the subject, he also has access to the advanced forum something that is earned by the quality of posts etc.
I think its great hes thinking ahead with the name and laying some solid foundations for the future.
May i ask what is it you look for before deciding who is a locksmith or not ?

Am I a locksmith?

Postby Romstar » 18 Jun 2004 19:05

Technically, you are a locksmith.

Try getting access at security.org and see how they feel about it.

According to the laws of your state you are in fact a locksmith. I would reccomend officially joining a locksmith association, or obtaining a bond. This is important.

However, even after the years I have spent doing this work, and all that experience, I may have to find a locksmith to appretice with.

I may move to Alberta in the near future, and that means none of my experience is valid. Or at least, that's my assumption at this point. I am waiting to hear back concerning this issue.

The requirements for who is and is not a locksmith differ from palce to place. In my mind however, the most important aspect of being a locksmith isn't where you went to school. It's the ability to do the job, and be paid for it.

I will always believe in knowledge over paperwork. No matter how important that paper is.

you're a locksmith when someone needs a locksmith and they contact you on reputation .

up until that point you are trying to get there

If that is your criteria, then there are a whole shitload of professionals out there who really aren't what they say they are.

After this thread, if i need the services of a locksmith I am going to ensure they are a certified master locksmith (one certification I can count on). I pay lots of money for experience and knowledge in the field not a business name. Just my two cents, but thanks for allowing me to wake up to this fact.
