Interest in a peterson government just picks set?

The idea was not really to get a discount I guess, but to get enough interest in members here to get Ken interested in going through the trouble of doing it.

Raccoon, yes you are exactly right in what is trying to be done. In the past I have spoke to Ken and he said he would do it for a single set but it would be a controls issue at the factory making sure it gets done properly. I was just hoping that with enough interest it would be less of a hassle for him and cost a bit less than it would to have a single set done in that manner. I may just have to go this one alone and get a set for myself.

SFGOON, to be honest yes I think the picks are alot better than the std spring steel picks. The area the picks are lacking is simply not being available in plastic handles. That is the deal killer for me. I just hate the rubber handles. With the plastic handles and the government steel, the feedback should be much much better than the std spring steel picks with plastic handles. The pick material in the gov steel is just alot stronger/better. The extra stiffness and no flex is what I think gives them their outstanding feedback even in the rubber handles.

I have an old spring steel set in rubber handles and the feel completely "dead" when picking with them. THe government picks however, even with the rubber handles have feedback almost as good or just as good as the std picks with plastic handles. Combine the two and a very nice pickset could be made.

he is right about the government steel, i have the gov elite 4 set and there is a big difference between the spring steel picks and the "government" steel picks, much better control and feedback, but i still like the rubber handels better, more comfortable for me but their plastic handles are a second and the textured handles are last because they just seem to bend with the pick

I would be interested. I have been looking at his site and was thinking about placing an order, but I will hold off until I see what happens here. I am just starting out and think that I should spend the money to get the good picks. I have a set of Ray's picks already coming.

It doesnt look like this is going to work out so if you want picks from Peterson it might be best for you to go ahead and order them. I was hoping to get interest from atleast 10 people and so far you are the first besides myself .

Sounds like the Gov. Steel is the way to go, but you'll get rubber handles instead of plastic.
If you're buying ala carte go for a hook. If you're getting bogatas you might not need another rake, but if you want to have more than one style in your kit then get a "double rake". A gem might be nice, but not essential yet.

That leaves you stuck for tension wrenches. They are trivial (and free) to make yourself and I think everyone should be able to do it, but that's just me. If you would rather buy from Peterson the '3 serrated wrenches' set would work, or you could go for the less conventional Flat 5 set, which many people swear by.

If you'll take Spring instead of Gov. steel, the City kit looks good, and it includes wrenches.
