Right here goes, at my archery club we have approx 8 padlocks, sterling combination ones.
today whilst trying to change the combi on the 1st one it went tits up.
the rest were changed correctly, however now we have 1 which we can't open or reset.
i was hoping to find my picks(don't ask) to see if i could bypass the keyway on the side but as is always the case....i've put them so safe that even i can't find them again.
anyone got any ideas?
if required i can show the lock with key and an in date paper if required to show i am as i say.
but at the mo i have a combi padlock that cannot be opened, and it's annoyingb the crap outa me

heh that would be a nice start. pictures always make users more open. as you have picks I assume you have already tried the usual ways to get combo padlocks open.

sorry for the lateness in replyng, been too busy at work (as usual).
there is no gap between the number wheels (unlike a briefcase lock) to slide anything between so that's a no no.
the padlock is designed so you have to press the shackle in to the body before pulling apart to open so cannot even use the old pull/tension tech whilst turning the wheels.
and i still can't find my picks GRRRR. there's safe places and then there are extra safe places, just wish i could remember all of MY safe places lol.
just annoying as it was the 1st one and he set the rest correctly.

the discription sounds like the sesamee type lock, we could tell him about the bypass with the thin blade, (petersen mightyknife) or we could accept that there is just no room to use one,
I think he should post a photo of the lock, showing the wheels.
Wake up and smell the Kafka!!!

Try this: Keep the shackle in all the time. Yoy might put the lock gently in a vise with pressire on the shackle or use string or tape or anything. Start with all numbers on the new combo. Rotate one wheel slowly through all numbers. If that wheel is the one that is off you should feel when the lever drops as the wheel will be a bit harder to move. If you dont find the combo, park that wheel on the new number and try another wheel. Try all wheels this way to see if one was stuck when you removed the setup key.
If none work, keep trying a sequence until you have tried all combos.
Nothing is foolproof to a talented fool. Wisdom is not just in determining how to do something, but also includes determining whether it should be done at all.

that's the bugger.
tried new combination and moving each wheel but no luck.
it's not the end of the world obviously, as i have it on my desk and it's not stuck on the clubhouse like it was. just a bit annoying that he didn't keep instructions and buggered up the first one but all the others worked.

That lock looks like its no different than Master's Brass Combination Lock. There is an extremely simple method to open these types of locks that will blow you away.
Basically you hold down the shackle and insert a feeler pick into the top any dial when the numbers are facing the proper position. (Just like in the picture http://www.sterlinglocks.com/acatalog/c ... locks1.pdf "6666" )
Make sure the feeler pick is facing towards the right just inside the top of the dial. With the shackle pushed down, move the top of the feeler pick to the left, levering the feeler pick the right inside the lock. Then let go and the lock will pop open 100% of the time.
This method is featured in "Lockpicking for the New Millennium" dvd at lockpickshop.com

i see where you are coming from m8, and it's my fault for not showing the lock and key in a state where it's obviously not a break in.
however, if i had posted the pics on here would you have given any input? or would you just keep quiet and let me struggle????
my bad again m8

This is a lockpicking site, not a 'how to open something quick' site, not in this area at least. ill happly tell you in the advanced areas, or via pm if you have a good reason to know.
You are after bypass info, not picking info.
Sure you may be fine, but what about the kid who joins your archery club, looks up the site / google, opens your locks with ease, then goes and shoots himself or kills someone else.......
