Peterson "The City" set

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Peterson "The City" set

Postby gf1984 » 12 Jan 2008 11:31

Got my Peterson "The City" set from Lockpickshop.com. Six picks, two extractors, and two tension tools. My girlfriend said, "You haven't put those things down since you got them." I like the picks alot better than the Southord picks I was using. Comfortable in the hand and seem to be stronger. My only complaints are that the case is too small and the picks are hard to get in and out. Also I like the Southord tension tools alot better.

Anyone else have this set? Any comments? What about a suggestion for my next Peterson set? I want to stick with them. Thanks.

The Ken's picks

Postby gostone » 12 Jan 2008 12:17

The Ken's picks are an excellent set, they would give you the peterson flat five tension tools which are ok, as well as the DCAP picks, as well as the slender gem. It would duplicate a few of your picks, but would give you a few more versatile tools.

I have that set, actually the only perteson set I own.

Personally there way to thick for any difficult keyways, KW1 or SC1 keyways are fine.

It also took well over 2 hours to finish the picks to were they were lock ready or smooth enought o be efficaint.

Other than that the handels are good, and I wont lie if the strength was the same with a lesser thickness petersons would be top notch, also finished a bit better.

Case could be better, but over all I like them, I probobly won't place another order, but I am satisifeied for the 40$ i guess.

I own a few Peterson tools. I have the G-4, City, and extractor kit. The picks are amazing and came in perfect condition requiring no modification. All of my sets came smooth as butter. The DCAP picks are pretty thin, I don't know if you could get much thinner. The City kit is nice but as locknebie24 said they are a little thick when maneuvering in very tight keyways, but they are still very usable.

I also have the "Ken's Set"
as LN21 stated i had to do a bit of sanding before i was happy with the finish of the picks but the metal used is very nice, and i love the flat 5 tension tools.

i also had a bit of trouble getting the Ken's set into it's case at first and if you search my post about the picks when i first got them i mentioned this, now tho after using them a bit i can fit them all in nicely and a few homebrews i like to have with me.

all in all i love Peterson picks. some of the best out there.
