are european picks really needed

hello

i've purchased Southord picks SlimLine on MultiThieves.com

but i have a problem with them : they are too thin and get twisted when i pushed a little bit too hard on mushroom pins ^^

so i want to get new ones but definitively not Europeans special picks


i want to get normal ones because they wont twist as easily i think.

and they are not that thick and i might be able to use them to open european lock as well...

for comparison, the same picks from Southord.

i was looking at lockmaster 12 pieces set or Navigator Set, i don't know which one is the toughest.

Hey There,

I have both the Southord Slimline and Standard sets, on most of the Euro profile locks the standards are great but the slimlines come into their own when picking dimple locks. The Slimlines are also very useful on smaller padlock keyways.

that's also the idea i had in mind : slimline for small padlocks and small keyways, but traditionnal picks for usual cylinders.

if you are bending them you are using to much force. its not the picks fault you are just being to heavy handed.

Just back off and you will be fine.

i have both sets but I use the slimlines for pretty much everything, the "normal" ones seem a bit too big compared to other brands of picks that I have used. Sometimes I use them on wide open locks like kwikset or on camlocks. I've never bent a slimline.

but, is there never the need to push really hard on pins ? with some security pins for example ?

then, i'm looking forward to other brands like Peterson who claims having the most tough picks (but expensive) or Lockmasters(Dino) sets

you speak about basic Carbon Spring Steel picks, but i wans looking at tougher picks like Government Steel (15$ each)

i don't know if they are really thougher than Carbon ones

probably, but i think i wasted money already in too 'light' picks, so i'm looking for harder picks.

i have 2 Southourd traditional picks and they are impossible to bend with normal use. I should have bought Traditional from beginning.

I think also that my slimline were not that easily bent before. The metal went sotfer with time.

but now i want to buy really hard picks, not "top-of-the-line-ultraslim" picks that i don't really need.

ok i'm a 6 month only picklocker, quite beginner but i need good tools to learn right ?

you have good tools, I still pick with southord all the time.

peterson tools will bend if you abuse them as well. look up lockmasters.com , they sell a set of picks with a lifetime guarantee, there pretty strong.

i have in mind to buy them since a few days ago

i've asked for the thickness of these picks and they are 0.020 " wwhich seems quite ok for european locks.

actually, i think they are more a DINO pickset than a Lockmasters' one. but they are the same anyway...
