Postby screamdud » 1 Mar 2008 23:51

What type of key does the American Lock 5200 have? I have look all over the internet and can not seem to find the answer. Thanks in advance.

I am looking online and I see that it is said AM6 is for 5 pins and AM7 is for 6 pins. Does anyone know if the 5200 is 5 or 6 pins?

I also heard online that the AM3 is meant for the 5200 series, can anyone please help me verify this? Thank you again so much.

The AM3 is for 5 pins its like the AM6 but it looks like a traditions key not like the american lock keys where they have a sqaurish top the AM3 is round. Both can be used for the 5200.

An AM7 will work in a 5200. The core holds six pins but usually only have 5. If you use the longer key you'll just have an extra space at the end of the key. are you impressioning this lock, making a spare key or, a bumpkey?

I want to attempt to make a bump key. Basically an AM6 and an AM7 are the same key but the AM7 is longer?

I went to my local hardware store and I was told that they only had the AM3 and that AM6 and AM7 are hard blanks to find. He said odds are I need an AM3. Just an update.

what's with all the Jet blank numbers? Around here ilco dominates. Is jet the more common blank where you are?

Try asking for a A1045 or A1046, or better yet ask a locksmith instead of a hardware store. The 6 pin american lock blank is certainly not hard to find.

regardless you can check how many pins are in your padlock by putting a thin tool (like an upside down half-diamond) in and lifting up all the pins then counting the clicks as you slowly remove the tool.
