retail lockies: funniest thing said by customers?

Went to a 2003 BMW trunk opening job once. When I got there the customer told me I had to give him a huge discount cos he already did half job for me. I asked him what he did and he said he used his keys for his Acura and a small offset needle nose plier and managed to pick the lock open. I took a look and all he did was twist the face cap on the trunk lock.

I would have charged double.

I usually tell them that the doubled charge is the discount.

Heck, compared to the other trade charges around this place, the doubled price is closer to their normal price.

me "Sorry maim but the keys are made of brass and a magnet will not work because they are not magnetic"

another customer:

Keys are not working in the trunk of the new GM car and will not go all the way in. Give the cyl a shot of lube and no go so I take a rake and find some bits or leaves. So I turn to lady customer and say

"Some kid must have stuffed leave in your lock as a prank or maybe they are just young and were playing but the end result is this cylinder is stuffed full!!!"

customer "I did that because I was mad at my car" *says nothing else for 20 minutes as she watches me pull leaf piece after leaf piece out of the lock*

As I'm grabbing the blank they remind me 3 times that it's a master key, and while paying for it they ask just to be sure if I cut it as a master.

this actually happens a lot.

Apparently some convertibles allow the trunk release to be disabled when the top is down, so it gives your stuff protection against opportunistic thieves that would reach-in, push the release and take the trunk contents.

Do you suppose it's possible that his car is capable of and he had the lid release disabled, then accidentally locked his keys in the trunk?

Maybe customers are ignorant, but I can see why some might want to remind you that it's a master. If he comes in with a Schlage H(sub-master blank) and wants a copy for a new house keeper, perhaps he wants to make sure that it does not get put on L that would allow it to open EF,F,FG and G.

You can still copy an H to L and it would work the locks its supposed to as well as the ones it shouldn't. I think many key cutters are only concerned with keys working the locks it should work...
