lubrication for car window weather stripping ?

Postby pickersRus » 17 Jul 2004 23:26

:D hello once again everyone. I know this probably sounds like a stupid question  but I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions about what to use to lubricate the weather stripping on automobile windows before inserting any type of manipulation tool ( autobuster , slimjim , etc.) I have heard that a mixture of dishwashing liquid detergent and windshield washer fluid is good. Is this a good mixture and what ratio if any should it be mixed ? Also if you have any other mixture please inform me. THANKS

Don't use ANYTHING on the window unless you have to. If there is a need, use the washer fluid or plain water first.
If you are working on an old car, then you may have a good reason to use a lube as weather stripping often becomes brittle.

I prefer rubber restore. I can't remember what the name of the company is, but any similar product will be the same. Just make sure it is safe for both natural and artificial rubber. This stuff tends to be quite slick, and has the added benefit of rejuvinating the rubber strip.

I carry mine in a needle lubricator. This is a small flexible tube with a screw on cap on one end, and a large bore blunt needle on the other.

Good luck,
