Where can I get proper key cut specs (root, depth, etc)

Postby WOT » 3 Jun 2008 6:40

I know you can find depth and space online, but I'm not aware of anything that lists the proper factory specs for root width and angle.

This information is important.
Schlage is 31mil width, 100° angle

Even if you have the proper depth and space, if you cut a Kwikset to the same specs, it won't work good or won't work at all because Kwikset requires 81 mil root and 90° angle(the angle you can get away with.. but still not proper to use 100)

Maybe try ITL's website. www.intralocktools.com

If it's not on there, you could try emailing them.

The reason I say this is that ITL's machines use only one cutting blade to cut all different types of keys. You don't have to change blades like with a Blitz. So the flats have to be programmed into the computer for each type of key along with the depths and spaces.

Just a thought, hope it helps.

Vrocco, even if that doesn't work +1 for effort, that was pretty good thinking...Im not sure if you have used their machines or not and if not +2 for knowing about it just off hand :D

Thanks! I do have an ITL950C though, so I guess I only get the +1.

The thing I liked most about it when shopping for code machines was that one cutter does all the different keys. No changing blades.

only the deepest cut key of the set.
also a lot of sellers hide their bump keys under the name depth keys so I'm sure you can find one of those if you wanted

The eBay ones are not cut to proper specs.

The might have the right depth and space, but not the right root width and angle.
