I use picks from every company. With the exception of the Falle tools. They're just too expensive to justify. Especially when you consier their limited application.

You've apparently never heard of the Basic Picking Kit, or used a Falle turning tool...

I own the things.

Basically, I love the tension tools, and I think the picks are over rated. The deep curve and graduated curve picks simply don't work in a very large variety of new corrugated and paracentric keyways. They weren't meant for them.

The normal tools are okay, but then we arrive at the point where they aren't unique anymore, and just another version of what's already been done.

The best thing about the normal Falle tools is the steel and the coating. Mine have this really excellent coating on them. Makes them almost go "tink" when a pin sets. I would love to be able to duplicate that.

The curves and the tension tools are what made Falle's basic picking tools unique. Take that away, and what you are left with is the tension tools really. Those are excellent, and I am surprised that someone else didn't do it sooner.

Oh well, somebody has to be first.

Coating?

I've never heard of the Falle tools having a coating... mine appear not to.

I don't know if it's an electro plate, or if it's just the type of steel.
Given what these things cost, I'm not about to go scratching them all up to find out.

Either way, they almost make a sound when you you are using them. It's sort of strange. You feel it so clearly it's almost like hearing it.

The coating is nickel plating (Accoriding to LSS).

Oh I love it. Someone who knows how to use files.

It's amazing what a little filing, sanding and polishing will do to the way a pick works and feels.

I made a set of three picks (hook,snake-rake and half-diamond) using only a file and sandpaper. This was the first set I made, and I had a dremel tool at my disposal. But I like to learn the most basic way of doing things first. After that you can fully enjoy the convenience electrical applications give you.
