Animation: How a lock works

Hey there,
I made a lock thats being opened with a key. Going to make it open by picking it too, but aint got much time right now.
Anyways, I guess all of you know how a lock looks like at the inside, but I posted it just because I thought I would share it with you guys.

It's a "fast" render, so the quality is crap. But you can see the quality in the 2 photos I posted too. One note, is that the key has no details yet, but that will come. Middle of exams and stuff, so aint got too much time. =/
If when I'm done, anyone will use it in any way, please let me know. As I said, I wil pick it poen too, and that will be great to use for demonstration purpose.

wow!

great work man, it almost looks real. I can't believe the software/you is detail oriented enough to put a shadow under the key as it inserts into the lock.

I saw the video on youtube and I have a request. Can you do the same animation but turn the plug clockwise?

Just do the standard animation, and turn it clockwise instead of the other way?

Will render it out on monday or something. At work now, and lots of stuf to do tomorrow.

This would help show people that the pins riding up and down in holes milled out for them and it would also show how them being flush with the surface of the plug.

no rush and no biggie if its a complex task.

Its a really small task, and I will do it for you
But the problem is rendering time. As the crappy quality you see on youtube (the link I posted) took me 6 hours of rendering. I set it to good quality, but that estimated to about 55 hours, and I need my computer for a project this week.

But I will post it here when I have it done I might start it tonight, if I get time after work. (Working as a taxi driver some weekends, 18:00 to 04:00/06:00) And school. But soon its holiday, and I get some more time

NOTE: this is posted in two threads. "Pick-Fu- Do... Not try." and "Locks". I dont know where to post, so if an admin could remove thisone, or make it redirect to that other, that would be great. Or, if its just ok, then let it be. But I think it might be a little annoying to some.

This is just plain outstanding work. I use AutoCAD all of the time but the rendering I can get from autocad is nothing compared to this unless I am missing something.

This definately deserves a sticky!! Great work, especially for only your 29th post!

Hmm, how can I edit my posts? Seemes like the edit function dissapears after some time I would like to clean the first post up a bit, and add the two pictures of other locks(padlocks) from the other thread here, to get it in the same post. Since I was so lucky to get this sticky =D

Long time since I'v been writing anything here now, but I just made a quick animation of how raking a lock works.
NOTE: This is mainly just a test, as the video doesnt show clarely enough that the pins get stuck, and 2 of the pins are too long I think.

I'm in Australia now, and couldn't get my desktop computer with me (of course), so I cant do any 3d animation down here. I Might do some random 3d stills, but I dont know yet.

Anyways, if there are any requests please let me know. I cant promise I'll make it, but it will help to give me ideas for what I could try and make. =)

Just added you on DA. Glad to see you back, I hadn't noticed this thread before, but your work is stunning. Do you mind if I use your animations for a couple of workshops I have coming up? Also, any stills showing the basics of single pin picking would be excellent. Especially showing how Spool &/or serrated pins work.
