Hi!
I'm new to lock picking and this site. I'm about to order a lock picking set off of amazon.com (I had a gift certificate) ( http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de ... L4N7DKYMO2 ) If I'm about to make a big mistake someone tell me.
Anyways, I'm a young newbie to this whole thing, but it seems like fun. I've become somewhat proficient at getting into older masterlocks, cheap padlocks, and those cheap-ish brass locks with the dials (not sure what they are called).
I read all the faqs and stickies, and have been lurking the forums for a week or so. uh.... HI!
...can't I just shoot the thing?

Dear Group:
I'm trying to get started in a locksmithing career. I'd received a little training several years ago, but it was incomplete.
Can anyone recommend any companies that provide paid training to people who want to pursue careers in locksmithing? I live in the West Palm Beach area of Florida.
Thanks.

Greetings all,
I've been browsing for a week or so and finally decided to register.
I recently obtained a pick set and have so far been able to open a very small master lock as well as a generic disc shaed pin/tumbler lock. I am also attempting to pick a generic lock with what appears to be some sort of wafer design, but have had no luck. Oh well, it will come.
I also look forward to attempting a tougher padlock, with trickier pins.
To me, this is a great way to relax while vegging in front of the TV, or watching a movie. After a stressful day of work, I usually play with my kids until their bedtime. Afterwards, a nice beer and some picking puts me in a great mood. Even the lock that has me baffled is fun in it's own way. It's like a Rubik's Cube...never did solve the stupid thing, but had fun trying.
Enough for now....and hope to learn much from this site.

yeah, I actually looked at that before - if I order from amazon.com my credit card company doesn't ring me up and say "did you really order from "lockpickshop.com"? but unfortunately, last time I checked that set was only to be sent in america....
Oh look! it's 2016!

Hey Whitehat,
I ordered from Lockpickshop.com a few weeks ago and the merchant name as it showed up on my statement was 'lps'. Nothing suspicious there, and that's their merchant trading name, so that's all that Visa or your bank know about them. Though it might be worth taking the Global Express Mail option for the tracking and insurance - I'm still awaiting confirmation that LPS have shipped my replacement set after the first went awol. I'll be picking up some tubular picks from them soonish and I'll definitely be spending the extra $15 for the peace of mind.

yep, the same for me, but never the less - my credit card company (it's good though - excelent fraud protection service) rang me up to confirm that I did actually want to pay x amount to an american lockpick selling company.... not that I mind or anything, it's just the lady that called me up sounded like she had a strange look on her face.......
Oh look! it's 2016!

Wow! That's pretty amazing. I wouldn't have expected that!
Quite frankly I don't like the idea of someone else viewing my purchases and asking me if I'm sure I wanted to make them (though it could be useful for those rash decisions and spur of the moment purchases which you regret right away ) With my CC company, as far as I'm concerned they can take all my purchases as valid unless I call them to say they're not. Horses for courses though - is it a bank specific Visa thing or is this Amex we're talking about? I've got an Amex card but in the 5 years I've had it, I haven't used it once so I wouldn't know if they did that sort of thing...

bank specific visa - the bank provides the service. it's a gold one so I pay a bit extra for features like personalised service and better rewards program etc...
Oh look! it's 2016!

Yeah, but that's what bothers me. Did the lady actually mention lockpicks? Because she should NOT have known what LPS sold unless she did some sort of digging, which she is NOT supposed to do.
Certainly, I like when they call and ask if you bought something out of the country, but she should not have know WHAT.
It's been done to me before, and I certainly appreciated it, but they never knew what I was buying.

Hello, I just registered and just wanted to say hi. I've been into lockpicking in tubler locks and padlocks{combination and tubler} for about 3 yrs. and I've just now been getting into Automotive locks and would like to learn a great deal more about them. I've been visiting this site for about 2 weeks now and have to say it's the most comprahensive site full of information on lockpicking i've been able to find. Thanks for the great source of information, Sesrun
