Salto locks

Postby lunchb0x » 30 Aug 2009 9:54

At work we have just got a job to instal Salto locks on around 40 doors, this is the first time that I have heard of them but over the weekend I have been looking into them a little bit and it looks very good, kind of like Ving but being RFID instead of having to have a card, also what I really like about this product is that all the hardware to read the RFID tags and work the lock are in the furniture so they will be quicker to retro fit and also wont have the problem like Ving whereyou have to cut a huge chunk out of the door to fit the lock that can only be replaced with another Ving lock.

At the bottom I will put a link that explains Salto and how it works but quickly this is how I understand it, all the locks are stand alone and run off batterys, unlike Ving where to update the locks you have to go to each door to update the info with Salto all of this is done through the RFID tags where the tags are updated when the user passes through a "hot spot", to me this makes it very easy for the customer to use and monitor their security and also at a very good price, I have been told that it will work out to be around $1000 per door.

Has anyone here delt with this product before, I'm looking foward to being able to have a play around with it and see how it works.

I believe they have updated to something else, but Salto were the locks used at the Cryptophone offices for a couple years, they seemed satisfied with them.

This is something that I have been thinking about doing, buuuuut I was thinking about going 1 step further and seeing what type of chips vets use for implants :)

How cool would it be to wave your hand over your car and it unlock!!

They were using the same as used in the old American ford transponder keys, the ones where you could see a little tab where it was inserted in the top corner. Image

I remember a guy in England had one implanted and was controlling things at uni with it.

I didn't think that they would be using glass chips, I thought that they would of been carbon chips encased in something to protect them, but after doing a bit of a google search they are a glass chip, but would be different to the ones made for cars.

I have plenty of the glass chips at work but I don't think that I will be using one of them. :)

The one they used to use was exactly the same as the car transponder. Somewhere I have an article from Time Magazine about it.

I don't know what they use now.

Salto uses rfid cards. Mifare and EMarin standarts.
EMarine is easy to copy today.
Mifare is copyable but expensive
