S & G Military Padlock w/Medeco cylinder

The photos depict the removal of the cylinder from the S & G padlock, showing the cylinder retaining plate, cylinder and locking lugs.

A control key is used to remove the cylinder, but unlike an IC cylinder, it is only a normal operating key with the bottom notch removed, thus allowing the extra travel of the locking cam to allow the retaining plate to slide out of the side of the body. The cylinder is heavily protected inside of the steel padlock body. Note the shape of the rear of the Medeco cylinder, it is rather unique and requires some machining to fit a commercial cylinder in its place.

mmmm my favorite locks.

That would be an 831B-M-1 from 1988. I am writing an informative and entertaining Han Fey style paper about these padlocks. (yeah, I know it's only taken me a year and a half so far, but it is coming along.)

Click HERE for a nice pic of some S&G and other military padlocks.

Thanks for sharing yours,
