one of the movies starring rapper DMX, i think it was "Never Die Alone" where he uses a pick gun but no tension wrench to pick a door lock and escape capture.

The new Sherlock Holmes movie features antique lockpicking :P From memory it looked like he had a tension tool, and various shimming type picks.

There's a scene where she picks a lock, so of course she called me over to show me and I was surprised to see that she actually raked a little bit before turning the plug. Most times I see picking in movies, the plug isn't turned, so I was fairly impressed. Only thing is, she turned it 180 then back again instead of the whole way around - but in saying that, it was a knobturn (which we don't really have over here), so it may have been accurate for all I know. :)

I worked at the premiere of that movie when I lived in New York. Met LL Cool J, who, after dropping his family off inside the theater, proceeded to roam around looking at stuff and chatting with the staff. He apparently had no interest in actually watching it.

Also, to remain relevant - NCIS, in every episode I've seen them do it at least, actually uses the tools properly, even if they do gain entry pretty quickly.

@ nanoduke, they didn't show the lockpicks well in that movie, (sherlock downey Jr) there appeared to be various tryout keys and lever turners, perhaps a carrier for a wax impressioning tool

then the door just gets kicked in anyway.

not a movie... but in NCIS, the israilie girl used 2 hooks to pick a lock.... I suppose you could use 1 hook as a tensor lol

Kick-Ass shows a police officer getting into an apartment with a pick gun + tension wrench. It doesn't bring too much attention to it.

I wonder why they dont do it correcty every time... someone obviously knows the right way.. y even bother with the wrong way sometimes... its not like they show it (in the half second to 2 seconds) enough for people to try it themselves.

And in the spirit of the thread, in "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo", the two leads confirm their security has been compromised with a little forensics; a brief shot of the lock, either forced or very heavy-handed picking (I can't be sure)
[One day, I'm going to apply for the Advanced section, just to see if I get accepted....]

I watched an old school episode of Mission Impossible and the actor Leonard Nimoy picked pin tumbler two locks on a safety deposit box using just one pick. He just generally looked like he was making cake mix with a wooden spoon, two seconds later both locks were open, perhaps it's because he's a vulcan in a future life, who knows?

LOL PLEASE watch Macgyver, Season 4 Episode 10 "The Battle of Tommy Giordano" at about 28:35 on YouTube and watch Macgyver pick a lock with a single pair of tweezers! LOL
"That lock? I could pick that with a finger nail and a piece of laundry lint."
