Ug. Those Master lock Pro Series are terrible. I can practically blow on them and they open. Of course, that's also what I think when I see a business store expensive equipment in a warehouse with a Kwikset on the door.
Should we show this guy an S&G 833? too bad it's shrouded. Squelchtone
No need to show me. Though I've never handled one in person. I'm going to have to spend the coin on one some day.

Ah squelch corrected me it was a pro series. it had been a long day and we just needed anything to lock the truck up. this time i have more locks and time to see which fits the best. just a thought: S&G 8088 ??

The 8088 is a great lock, and matter of fact I have five from that exact same seller. It isn't going to resist a pair of bolt cutters though. It's designed to show evidence of forced entry, not resist it.

Squelchtone[/quote] One of the things that sent me on this quest was seeing a Youtube video of a guy picking a Masterlock Pro in about 30 seconds. No thanks. I saw the S&G 833 on Securitysnobs.com. A $1200 padlock better be near indestructable!
BTW, going back to your idea of a "buyer's guide" of locks for common applications...that would be an awesome help. I'm also considering upgrading my locks at the place I'm moving into. But that's another decision for another day.

Lol... With an S&G 833, a thief is bound to rip through the metal or destroy the hasp... just to steal the padlock

When I helped my sister move awhile back, I put one of the A700 Series American locks on the roll door, not because it was the best, but because it was all I had, they have a 7/16 diameter shackle. They do not resist bolt cutter though, but to be honest, unless it's shrouded, any shackle can be cut, I have cut some that people told me would crumble bolt cutters.

It's too bad that the truck won't accept a shrouded lock. But that's how it goes, I suppose.
Another question...would you guys buy a lock off of Ebay? One that you're planning on using for securing something rather than something to play with, that is. I'd hate to buy one and find out that it's been compromised in some way.

You just never really know about those ebay locks, most of the time there fine, but I would be on the safe side and try to find a locksmith that carries what you want, or at least have them help you find what your needing.

They really seem to be pushing Abloy Protec in US. For a moving truck, a classic would do just fine. I don´t know where you can buy these in USA, but here in Finland PL350 classic costs about 70 euros. I like the protec, but you can save some money, and still have a good lock.

LOL polar opposites. I guess I'll keep an eye on ebay and just be vigilant for sketchy auctions. Wizer wrote:They really seem to be pushing Abloy Protec in US. I think the "Classic" line is what I'm looking at. The PL350 is $125 on securitysnobs.com, which is about 70 euros. And the PL340 goes for $85. So far I'm leaning toward the 350...I found a few locksmiths in my area so I'm going to let my fingers do the walking and make some phone calls to see what they have.

Call these guys, they're an Abloy dealer from Texas: http://abloyusa.com/contact.htm if you are looking for Classic. Last I called them a few years ago a PL350 with Classic core was $65, but again, that was a few years ago. When calling mention it's for a Penske moving truck, they may have experience with shackle diameters to make sure the thing will fit. I'm bought from them before, they were very nice to work with. Thanks for the tip. I've been looking at that site and thought it was the official Abloy USA website.
