Hey. I'm SadisticPsycopath.
It's all in the name guys.
Wanted to get into this thing caled lock...pick-ing. Godknows what it is. :L
Seriously I wanna get into this. Partially to improve my dexterity (Help with playing piano), and partially cause it's cool. Maybe a little bit of practical skill aswell. Gonne try and get the old man to help me make myself some picks (Wiper inserts?). I have no skill with making stuff at all, and he's the only one who'll help me.
Whatever, I'm an intellectual.

Hi all, i'm a new member. I'm an auto mechanic by trade. Somehow in my shop i got the reputation of the go-to guy for all the lost key, stuck key, worn out ignition, broken door lock jobs. They call me the expert howeve I might disagree. I would say i'm just the most patient guy in the shop. I'm here because sometimes I have to resort to the brute force tactic(usually involving a drill) and i know there has to be a better way. I was hoping to find some experts that might be willing to give me advice when i get stuck. I'm willing to help anyone with a problem i may have experience with (i've done many GM ignitions....not that they are crappy or anything)

Good afternoon,
My name is Matt and I have been lurking here for a while. I have gleaned a ton of info here. Lock picking is a fledgling hobby for me and it seems like a good skill to have in your tool box.
Thanks, Matt

Hi all,
Kev here, I recently trained as a locksmith (introductory course) and I'm now practicing, practicing and practicing, before hopefully going on a more advanced course and going on to become a locksmith.
Good site,
Cheers
Kev

Hi,
I'm new to the site and rediscovering picking as a hobby after an extended absence. Read the MIT guide about 10 years ago, so I'm a little rusty. I sure am glad I found this site, though. Wish it was around when I first started. Might have saved some frustration. I really like the technicality of locks and the puzzle solving involved. About a year ago I received some old locks of my grandfather's. I came across them the other day in my garage and decided to clean them up a bit. There are several No. 1 and No. 7 Master Locks and three old railroad locks. The RR locks are really cool and one looks to be solid brass. I'll try to post some picks, once I figure out where they go. Since only one of the RR locks has a key I was just going to clean them all and put them in a shadow box for display. Got me thinking that it would be fun to start picking again. It beats just hanging them on the wall and looking at them, right? Also, I have always wanted to make a cut-away, so I plan to start looking for something suitable to try my hand at it. I now have the tools to give it a go and a better knowledge of metal working. I'm sure it will now be much more fun than going at a bunch of hacksaw blades with an old mill file like I did to make my first picks. I look forward to learning more and hope I can provide useful contributions along the way.

Greetings. I've been lurking on and off for several months and thought it was time to introduce myself properly. My field is in information security and risk management: how does one provide assurance that you can protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of a modern IT system. In simpler terms, how IT systems are compromised and how to keep them from being compromised. There are interesting parallels between "infosec" and locksport -- there are few barriers to entry, you should not trust vendor's promises without validation, breaking these systems is often quick simple once you know the "trick", etc.
While I am not an attorney, recent changes in California law have started to blur the line where electronic access controls systems start to fall under the rules for locksmiths, so I've registered myself as a California licensed locksmith and am waiting for the official paperwork to clear. Aside from a growing interesting in locksport, this merely gives me license to ensure I am playing by the rules.
My thanks to everyone who has made lp101 such an interesting resource.

Hey everyone. I've been gone a LONG time, lol. I started as just a hobby lock picker more than 6 years ago now, and though I stopped on the forums for a long time I've kept up my interest in locks, not only picking but the general mechanics of them as well.
I just recently got a job apprenticing as a locksmith :D which has brought back my interest trying in learning as much as i can about them... So here I am again, a place I've known to be a wealth of knowledge right from the start, 6 years ago when my interest was just that of a hobbyist, and now from a career point of view even more valuable!
I recognize a lot of the older members names, but doubt anyone remembers me lol. ohh well, time to start over i guess
Matt

Hello to everyone on this site. I have been a member of this forum for some time now, and as of yet I have not introduced myself. So, without further delay, here goes. I have been interested in lock picking for years now, but took a break from this wonderful hobby shortly after graduating high school. Roughly two years ago I was sorting through some of my old stuff when I ran into my old lock pick set. The fond memories started to flow, and I picked up the nearest padlock to try out my skills. Needless to say I failed terribly. (A side note, my previous skills were not that good.) So as not to be bested by a simple padlock, I went into a frenzy to re-learn as much as I could about locks and the art of picking them. I must have spent hours reading anything I could get my hands on. The MIT guide was a wonderful help, as well as many other texts. Youtube was also a great resource. I have rambled enough at this point, so let me wrap this up by saying, thank you to all of the wonderful teachers out there. You have all been a great help. Also many thanks to everyone who is part of this great community. You have all helped me as well. I look forward to learning as much as possible and furthering my knowledge of locks and the art of picking them. jonnyboy091373
