master lock 5401 select access lockbox

Postby dcason » 25 Jun 2010 8:57

Hi Everyone,

Here's a dumb one for you.......

We bought 10 of those master lock 5401 Select Access lockboxes to mount on our equipment racks to hold the little door keys to get in to the racks. I pulled off the little c-clip that was holding the shackel in place on the lockboxes and we drilled thru the back of the lockbox and used two bolts to secure them to the wall of the rack. So the shackel is not on the lockbox there is just the two holes on top of the lock where it used to be - no biggie since all the equipment racks are indoors.

Them promptly forgot the damm combation that I set for the boxes. I pulled one them off the rack and have been sitting here trying different combintions to try to get back in to the box. Is there a way to "guess" the combination or crack it?

I can drill this box appart and break in to the guts to see if there is a way to read what combo I set then I'd only have to replace the one box, any suggestions?

Cheers'

Very sorry... but given the nature of what those lock boxes are used for (i.e., securing keys to people's houses), a description of the quickest way to break into a lock box isn't something that people are going to discuss in an open forum. (I'm not questioning your motives here... but any assistance that anyone offers you is also going to be available to the next person to Google "breaking into a Master lockbox".)

Hope you understand.

we are not here to tell people how to break into locks in use. Call a locksmith. It is why they take training and learn the profession, to help people out.

There are methods that locksmiths know to defeat these boxes. Call one and pay to get it open.

Oh that's OK, when you think of it that way it does make sense.

So if I take this lockbox to a locksmith shop they should have a way
that they can get the combination out of it?

Any idea how much it would cost? Again I don't care if they wreck
this one we pulled off the rack.

Cheers'

They should be able to tell you up front, probably even over the phone, what they'll charge you to decode it. & they should be able to do it non-destructively, but who knows how they'll go about it.

A good pair of reading glasses. Supra is MUCH more secure. If I said too much, delete this post.
