Hi everybody!
I've always wanted to take up lock picking so I decided to give it a shot. I was instantly addicted to the satisfaction of cracking my first no 3 masterlock. Hope to learn lots from this great community.
Cheers, Sephy7324

Hi guys, Just got some picks, Southord 14 piece set; and, I got a Defiant lock. I've been interested in lockpicking for years, so quite excited to finally learning how to pick locks.
I took the lock apart, and set it up to do the practice recommended on the forum. I did ruin a couple of springs, but it's all part of learning how to do things properly.

Hey, I just joined today and am very new to all of this. Can anyone help me by telling me where to start with all of this? I've seen exercises but not known where to find/buy the supplies I need for them. Thanks!

Hi I'm Rod and I'm new to this forum. I bought a 5 pick Southord set a while back after playing a bit in a lockpicking village at an infosec conference.
Having a lot of fun practising on old locks at home. Thinking about getting into it a little more, it makes a fun and interesting hobby.

Hey I'm brand new to the site and lock picking. I just picked up a masterlock 140 to practice with and still waiting for my picks in the mail. I'm really interested in getting into this but so far all I have is bent paperclips thanks to the "security"pin in my lock lol

Hello, I'm Zaek
I've managed to gain a basic understanding of locks, meaning I've taken them apart and put them back together with success thanks to you :) Have re-pinned, removed spools and other security pins to be able to learn how to pick them.
If you're interested, My progress so far is 2 out of 7 pins (Meaning I'm able to pick it with only two) in my 'Habo Cylinder' locks.
Have been wanting to learn about this for years, but never took the time, sadly. However when i manged to pick my two pins, I felt the excitement flowing on, and had to try a 3rd pin (Failed there, I was not really expecting to become a master of locks in a few days, nor months for that matter, Perhaps years, time will tell!)
I'm kind of the person who likes to have something to obsess with, so I think I'll enjoy this hobby
Thank you for a great forum. :)

Hi All,
My name is Jeff and I am an Information Security pro who is getting increasing responsibility over the physical security controls of my organization. I'm not a locksmith, and while fascinated by the concept of lock picking, my real purpose here is to learn about the mechanics and theory of physical security locks. I want to understand the differences between lock manufacturers, the value of brand names and the pitfalls of high profile consumer locks that may not be adequate for our risk management needs.
Looking forward to learning from the group!

Hi I'm Tony, a mature student from Nottingham UK. I'm in a similar position to Jeff (poster above) as I'm studying Computer Systems (Forensics & Security) and will be (hopefully!) working as a SysAdmin in an InfoSec role when I graduate. Recently a tutor showed a video of Marc Tobias bumping a Medaco M3, reminding us to test & verify all aspects of security, including physical (locks on server rooms being a prime example) and this reignited my interest in lockpicking. Also, I'm a member of Nottingham Hackerspace http://www.nottinghack.com/ and we're looking to setup a locksports area in our workshop. As a result, we are looking to hire a professional locksmith to demonstrate picking techniques, as well as bulk purchasing "starter kits" to get people going. If you know of anyone you can recommend in the East Midlands, or if you're able to help out, please let me know!

Let me start by saying I am not a locksmith nor a competitive picker. My name is John, I’m 48 years old, I’m from New Jersey (USA) and I consider myself a novice and do it as a hobby. Lock picking caught my eye some years ago while I was working in the office. An employee was let go and there were no available keys for his desk or cabinets so the company called in a locksmith to open them. I was assigned to escort the locksmith and accompany him while he was in the office. He pulled out his wallet where he retrieved small picks. He proceeded to pick every cabinet and desk lock; he finished all in under a minute. I was amazed at his skill and wanted to learn more but I did not question him. I ordered a single, retractable lock pick that was advertised in a magazine. To my amazement I was able to pick a filing cabinet in a matter of seconds. I realized it was all luck and I had no idea what I was doing. From that moment on I tried to learn as much as I could. Over the years I’ve been quite successful in picking a small variety of locks including the lower end ones with security pins. The locks range from office cabinets to pad locks. My most impressive achievement is when a tractor trailer was unloading and the driver locked his keys in the cab. I looked at the key whole and realized it was single warded so I attempted it and was able to open it in seconds. It was a very proud moment of achievement as several people were watching and cheered me at the moment of success. I was offered a reward but declined because I was so satisfied that I was able do it. Unfortunately not all my good deeds were as successful and there were times when people looked at me like I was delusional idiot when my attempt to help them ended in failure. Anyway, joined this site some time ago but never posted. I love this site and cant wait to wade through the threads looking for all sorts of valuable tips and tricks…. John
