Has anyone heard of the King and Queen Pick

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Thanks pick_maker. Umm yeah it works really well as a rake but i think that when i took the angles off it when inflicting my own "style" (if it can be called that :?) it kinda altered its function a bit. I haven't had any luck using it as it was intended tho. But i will keep trying.

a Queen next i think :)

pick dimensions

Postby Greyflex » 11 Oct 2005 14:11

In reference to pyro1234321's picture of his king and queen rake.. why woud u make the shaft of the pick that long?

I make mine short as possible for strength and grip, but maybe I am making mine too short?

Well I got in on the fun to and made a set, using the .155" horizontal scale I found in one of the threads here. I've actually managed to open three locks with it - a Master 140 and a 130 and a Kwikset (actually I did two different cylinders with the same keying.) The padlocks and the deadbolt should have different pin spacing, so the design works for both.
It's kind of a weird way to pick though, I guess you eventually develope a feel for when to give up and turn it over or switch picks. I'd be hard pressed to keep at it with one of the professional computer pick sets. So many more combinations - I'd get impatient and give up :-).

hacksaw picks

Postby scampdog » 14 Jan 2006 22:32

Hi guys , just a quicky,if you have finished a pick, and then just at the end you overheat it, all is not lost.instead of re heating, and cooling in water(which will cause the metal to lose its elasticity, and become very brittle),try heating the metal to cherry red,and cooling in a light oil. This will cause the metal to retrieve some of it's properties, and lessen the chance of any breakages, dont forget cherry red,not nearly melting.

There's really no such thing as "previous page". Threads are listed in the order of most recently posted in. Maybe just repost it in the appropriate thread and let me know when i can remove these posts.

Yesterday, I attempted to make my own pick. I was extremely proud...until I tried to use it. It split as if it were made of...graphite (I am exagerating).

I think I need practice, and my home-made pick was a waste of a dremel wheel (I wish I hade a grinder thing...) I probably heated it too many times...

Oh, well. I'll do better next time  .

Hey guys, I had a few free minutes today, so I decided to draw up the King and Queen picks in AutoCAD. There have been several people here complaining about scale, well, if you use the CAD file, there won;t de a problem, no matter what resolution you have. THe only thing you need is a CAD viewer (which are free all over the net). I can't host the files, but here is a picture of what they look like:

If you would like the file, I will be more then happy to email it to you, or maybe someone would host it.

My email is lanew(at)rogers(dot)com, please replace the obvious (at) and (dot).

Enjoy,

One more note, I realized after I posted that there are two sizes that sohuld be made, one with 0.155" spacing, and one with 0.165" spacing. I quickly whipped up another batch and changed the spacing, so now I have drawings for both sizes. Cheers!
