Which tubular lock pick to buy

Postby Shyfted » 23 Feb 2011 1:27

So im thinking about getting a set of tubular lock picks. Ive checked out the ones from lockpickshop.com and while they are good quality they are out of my price range. Has anyone used the ones from gadgetsdirect or dealextreme? Will they get the job done? what are theyre downfalls (besides quality)?

You won't really find a good quality tubular pick for cheap. A good quality one like the southord or HPC pays for itself.

I use the one from A1. works really well, is solid construction and allows you to decode and duplicate with the ace duplicator

I got one from here, showed up today, excellent tool. Opened a normal tubular lock in seconds, I had the Klom one but I broke a finger and couldn't get them to work right after that, others swear by there Klom from DX, I had no such luck with it.

I have the SouthOrd 7 and 8 pin picks and they have served me well for over 5 years. They're reliable and well made, although I couldn't say the same for the cheaper asia made versions. I've never used them but I've heard a lot of dissatification from people who have.

i guess the only reason im considering a cheap one is because theyre only useful on a specific type of lock which arent that common. Im still not sure if i can justify the $150+ for a good pair of tubular picks. Oh well ill have a think about it, thanks for the input

A KLOM tubular pick is about $30 or so from places like DX and that may look cheaper than $80 for a SO or HPC pick, that's most likely gonna be $30 you've flushed down the toilet IMO. If you can be patient enough till you can buy at least a SO pick you'll be much more satisfied.
