Hi, I'm new here. I have been doing lock defeats and amateur locksmithing for about 15 years. Was looking for info on a safe defeat and found your site. I mostly lurk, but I'll contribute if I have something useful to say.

Hey everyone my name's Ilan and I'm from Louisville, KY, USA and recently bought a picking set on a whim. A couple years back my friend presented and researched locks for his senior project. After reconnecting with him recently, we ended up on the topic and thought I might be interested but wasn't sure, seeing as I'm not generally into mechanics. After receiving my 7-piece set in the mail several weeks ago, I did some research and first opened a 4-pin Master Lock 131D, and the rush was incredible. Since then I've been entirely hooked: the intricacy of locks and their parts in amazing. The lock I'm most proud of picking thus far is the ABUS N-65/50, a 5-pin all spool lock. Definitely look forward to posting and discussing with everyone and learning as much as I can.

Hi, Mike here, from southern Ontario, Canada. I've been into locks since I was young, 12 or earlier, I blame the Time Life Home Encyclopedia..... buggers had a little blurb on opening a lock in an emergency, I've been playing for 17 years off and on since then. I'm a welder / fabricator by trade but locks are to me, like crosswords / sudoko are to others, I thought about it as a career, but in a town of 27,000 with three locksmith shops, two of which are third generation owned..... I dunno if I'd get too far, so a hobby is all it is for now. This is a great site and I've learned quite a bit, I appreciate the openness of information here and the fact that a place like this exists. Thanks all for everything I've picked up just poking around,
Mike.

Hey folks. I've been lurking for a couple weeks and figured it's about time I introduce myself.
I started picking locks with improvised tools a long time ago, and in middle school the staff used to get me to open up file cabinets and desk drawers for them. I sorta just forgot all about picking locks for a while, until a few weeks ago I met raimundo at the Hack Factory, and he showed me some of his bogotas and a handmade snap pick. That got me thinking about it again, so I ordered up a Southord MPXS-20 set and started digging locks out of my junk pile. Hoping to gather up more locks soon, as I've only got a few, and keep practicing.
I've already found the "What have you picked today" thread, so I'm going to make a post there about the locks I've been playing with.
This is definitely a great forum, and I'm looking forward to learning more about different locks, and different techniques to pick them.

Hey ya'll names Taylor currently in Washington State. I started to pick locks as a way to help stop dipping tobacco and biting my fingernails, but I am now addicted to popping locks and tobacco still. There ain't a master lock I can't pop and am getting pretty handy with most other common door locks and deadbolts. Just looking to broaden my skills so I can tackle my new nemesis, the American Lock 5200 series cause in the army we use them for everything lol.

Hi everyone. I am a newbie as well. Inherited an FB key cutting machine, a KAR automotive key cutter and boxes of auto and house key blanks. Most of the blanks are from the 70's. Many auto blanks. I also have the FB course from the 70's and am reading and studying it to learn what I can about locksmithing.
Would like to take a locksmithing course when time allows. Trying to locate a local school for it, if none available will have to go the home course route. I am also involved in antique clock repair for the past 15 years, so this keeps me busy a lot.
Have been reading thru the site posts and see that I can learn a lot from this valuable site.
That's it for now. Will be reading and posting soon. Thanks for allowing me on your forum.

Hi new kid here,
I live in South Australia and have always been fascinated by lock-picking and intrigued by the Locksport community so I've decided to start learning as much as possible.
I'm sure I'll be asking lots of silly questions (after using the search function of course!)
Cheers

Well Hello all, I've been lurking around for quite some time so I figgured I'd register and particapate. My name is Bear and I'm sole owner and general flunkie of Bear Lock & Key here in GA. I mainly do residential and light comercial work. I'm a fairly new buisness ...will be a year this June. I've managed to keep afloat in these tough economic times but it's been tough as I'm sure it has for all locksmiths. Don't know much more to say here so I will see you all in the discussions.
