Mini Knife Tool and Knife Tool

Postby paultan » 29 May 2011 1:03

lockpickshop.com.sells something called a Mini Knife Tool and Knife Tool. Its a bypass tool that's used to decodes and/or opens multi-wheeled combination locks such as those found in many padlocks. Its supposed to by-pass the lock by reaching through their keyway and tripping the release feature within the lock housing. The question I have is does this tool really work? and is the metal really flexible?

That's not quite how they work (for the majority of those combination-wheel "luggage" locks, anyhow). With these locks, the "knife" is helping you decode the combination, rather than tripping some sort of release mechanism (and there's not typically a keyway on those locks?).

If you search around, I'm sure there must be a good thread with a tutorial of how to decode those locks; it's not that hard, and doesn't require a special tool (you can make a tool easily from pretty much any thin, rigid material).

There are some combination locks that can be bypassed via a tool like this. However, since it is a bypass method, and the policy here is not to discuss bypass methods, you'll need to use a search engine to get more info.
It's a good day when I learn something new.

Not sure how much they charge for those, but some feeler gauges can be cut down to to the job cheaper.
