Abloy protec padlock dissasembly/reasembly

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Abloy protec padlock dissasembly/reasembly

Postby averagejoe » 20 Jul 2011 15:44

Hello,

I was thinking about taking apart my Abloy padlock, just to see what makes it tick so to speak. It is supposed to be a 250 model, but there is no number on it, just "The Enforcer" on the back.

My question is, if I remove the bottom plug to take out the core/keyway, will it fall apart, or will it stay as a unit?

Is that a guide on this, or is that kind of thing restricted to the advanced forum?

Thank you for your help,
averagejoe

If this should be in the advanced section mods, just delete to post.

Protec certified here. You should be able to take the cylinder out of the padlock and have it stay together. As far as assembling/disassembing, these things are bitches to get together, the spirolox retaining rings are hard to get on (atleast for me). If you need help, I have a service manual here, and could possibly post it if the mods ok it.

That would be cool. I think talking more in depth about these things is just for the advanced boards, since there is a link here for tear downs etc, but it says I do not have permisison so they must have been moved to advanced.

I'm not sure if your Protec will be like this, but here's what an older generation Abloy looks like inside.

and yah, don't let all the parts fall out of the sleeve.

Protec should look different than that. I've never worked on a padlock version though.

I can post a exploded diagram from the Protec manual.

Soooooo... I figured might as well try. I mean what could go wrong?
Took out the set/grub screw, took out the plug and...... the key and discs came out by themselves.

After my heart started back up I found that they didnt want to go back in.

Normal forum safe version I got it back together but it wasnt easy. It even works! Little stiffer though. 8)
I might do a complete teardown with pics for advanced later.
