Well, to start, thank you, I guess, since you are considering that what I use would be the best in picking, but I am far from the best picker here. I'm a good picker, but not an awesome one like Farmerfreak for instance. He's the one you should be asking, but I will tell you or try to show you what I use. I will say that the picks do not make the man, the years of experience do. I believe Farmerfreak uses 1 hook pick with a normal handle, and a wrench. Keep that in mind as you read what I'm about to lay down.
I usually practice with a Peterson rubber handled hook, and an HPC half diamond with a foam slip on handle, but I'm also just as likely to pick up an HPC hook with riveted handles, or a Southord S rake with riveted handles. I suppose I'm not a fan of thin picks, but the TOOOL/HOPE 2K6 doubles sided L rake and S rake is one of my favorite picks that I reach for, especially for Medeco locks.
You know Bogota picks by Raimundo? I have a set of those from him, and as you know there isn't much for a handle but I keep them on me at all times, and can open most locks with them easily.
When I started, my first pick set was a small pocket Southord set, and not the slim line either, the normal sized set with riveted handles. I bend or broke every pick in the case and every wrench as well because I didnt know any better and tried to brute force locks when I first started. I also picked for a year before I even found this forum on the internet. After that first pick set, I got another Southord, and then a Southord slim line. Then came a set from the HOPE conference, and then I saved up and spent $100 on a Peterson blue plastic handled set because I thought it would give me better feed back. I can't say I'm a huge fan of those plastic handles, once I got the black rubber ones I never looked back, until I bought some individual dipped handled picks from them, I didn't think I would like it, it's an interesting material and I dont mind it now, they also have a plastic dip now, and if you get the Just Five picks, ask for the foam dip in the 5 colors instead of the 1 color plum plastic dipped shiny handles.
After this I got an HPC set with the multi color anodized handles, its a little rough on the edges, and needs some sand paper, other wise the handles are very comfortable and the hook, half diamond and S rake have good geometry and good feedback. I also picked up a pocket pick set made by Majestic, this is more for historic reasons because for many years HPC, Rattan, Brockhage, and Majestic were the only choices for locksmith companies, long before Southord or Peterson came along. The Majestic handles are riveted 3 ply handles.
If I am at a locksport meeting or just messing around, I sometimes use an HPC emergency pick set, it is a pick set with no handles, full tang, and the ends of all handles have a hole, through which they put a rivet so you do not loose the picks, the whole thing fits in a pocket or glove box or tool box for emergencies, but it is not easy to hold while picking, so I used a Dremel to remove the rivet and now I have individual picks, which are strong, flexible, and comfortable to hold. Maybe not as comfortable as the others already described, but not too bad at all.
A few weeks ago another moderator here, keysman, sent me a nice gift, a brand new KLOM Navigator pick set, which at first sight on the internet I thought I would not like very much from my experience with GOSO picks. I did a 180 on my opinion of KLOM, the handles are very rubbery almost like a silcone material, they actually stick to each other in the case, which is a little annoying when getting a pick out, but it's brand new so maybe that will wear off. I also thought I would not like the boxy/square-ish corners of the pick handles, but because they are so rubbery, they are actually very comfortable to hold, and best of all, the picks are very well made and they are almost super-euro-slim-lines, very strong and many of the hooks are very slender, and are even numbered so you can tell a friend that a number #17 pick works best on a Tri-Circle padlock while a #9 pick works best on a Corbin Russwin mortise cylinder.
So now that you've read a book about this, I suppose I owe you some photographs. Hopefully you're still awake at this point, so here are some photos of what I use:

To summarize, and in order of preference:
6. Peterson blue plastic handles (not my favorite, but I like the size for my big hands, easier to hold all day than a Southord or HPC)
5. KLOM Navigator green rubber handles
4. Southord riveted handles / or the Peterson Just Picks dipped plastic, has a good feel to it.
3. HPC metal riveted handles or with the HPC foam sleeves over those riveted handles
2. Bogotas (yeah, I know not much in the handle department, but it sure is a powerful pick!)
1. Peterson black rubber handles with govt steel pick profiles
I will add that over the years I have learned that the tension wrench/turning tool you use is probably just as important as the pick profile or handle type you choose. Some of the differences in wrenches to consider are how stiff or bendy the metal is, how wide is the metal and does it have a twist i the handle or no twist and is it top of keyway or bottom of keyway or both (one on each end)
Hope this is what you were looking for, have a good weekend,
