Australian lockwood 6 pin keyway, what key blank ?

Postby treeplant » 3 Sep 2012 23:16

Hi everybody, I have been reading the forums for a long time but never made a account previously. Always enjoyed the posts and tutorials however I am now stuck and can't find the information I am after anywhere else so the time has come to open a account.

I have several Australian lockwood padlocks. They all have 6pin cylinders with standard pins. The locks came new pinned with only 5 pins and I have started a new project to repin them all to 6pins and add a master key combo. This is not a problem as over the years reading the guides, posts and piecing info together I have come to be quiet good at dissassembly repinning etc. I have repinned my cylinders to the desired combinations however I cannot find keyblanks that fit the barells or the codes for the blanks!

The keys that came are stamped lockwood and have no code on them. I took my keys and locks to local key cutting places but they said its a rare combo and cannot help, need to go locksmith who will charge a arm and a leg. So I am trying to source the blanks on my own from around the internet. I checked catalogues but there is many similar shapes so not 100% what could fit my keyways.

here is a picture of the keyway, wondering if anybody can tell me the code for a blank to fit it. Image

Hi,

Your photo is very grainy, is there a better camera you can use to take another photo? If you can do another photo, also make it be straight into the keyway, not at an angle.

Have you looked in the Silca key blank catalogs for your keyway? http://www.silca.biz/media/125918/v3/File/107-02-household-keys-en.pdf

ML1 I think.

They are probably ML1 because JA, JB, JC, JD, JL & JM all have the corresponding letter stamped on the keyway.

They are Master Locksmiths Association Of Australasia restricted (out of patent now) keyways. You will need to go to A MLAA member to get them.

The picture is bad, but I THINK it may also be the X95 keyway (an old restricted keyway made by Lane).
