Hey y'all,

I'm tired of locking myself out of my places and having to break things to get in, paying a locksmith, etc. I like figuring out how thing work and am kind of adhd, so this might be something to keep my hands and mind busy and maybe save me some scratch should I forget my keys, which no doubt will happen again at some point.

Thanks in advance for all the resources and sharing on this board, I'm also super po' and DIY is a way of life, but it also makes life more rewarding and satisfying as a result. OK, it makes life more interesting, being poor sucks huevos big time! :D

Two quick things I find kinda funny, and we've heard both of them here before. Don't take it personally, just an observation because it happens so often.

1. If you forget your keys a lot, how will you always remember to have your lock picks on you?
2. If you're wicked poor, how do you have high speed internet access? We do a lot of DIY here, but nothing beats a $5 - $20 dollar set of real factory made picks to get started on the right foot. No need to buy a $100 dollar set to get in the game.

Hi everyone!

I'm new here. I'm almost entirely new to lock picking, having bought the SouthOrd 5 piece set + booklet from a site with a Black Friday sale.

My only previous experience was a single homemade lockpick made of an untreated hacksaw blade. It worked well enough but it eventually broke from rough use (my "picking" at the time consisted of hard and fast raking).

Hai everybody!

I'm new here, I just discovered locksport, and Im excited to learn. So excited, I made my first pick (not real pretty) and read a bunch of info.
Last night I successfully picked one of my locks. it was easier then I thought it should have been ;) now to pick up some more info and more locks and see if there is anyone near me interested in or involved in locksport. It looks like it's a lot of fun that the whole family can enjoy.

Welcome to LP101. Hope you read as much as you can handle, and practice even more! That is the fastest way to learn.

2 things:

1. As this is a very international community, many people here do not speak English as their first language. "Hai" and "infoz" will be very confusing to some people here. It is certainly not found in a dictionary so translation will nearly impossible. You may not be understood if you use texting lingo. Perhaps you can stick to proper English on this site? It will help all of us to understand you better.

2. If you fill out your profile, especially your location, it will help others here to know if they are in your area, making it easier to find people to practice with. Have found a couple people in my area just by the location tag. Hopefully, you are in my area!

Hi All,

As dark nights set in i've become more security conscious. Not sure why i looked at Euro-cylinders but glad i did, as my rear door had one of those cheap 'easily snapped' locks. I did a lot of googling and decided to get the ABS replacement and feel more secure in my mind now.

Look forward to learning more from you experts so i can choose my locks more wisely.

Hi there,

I'm new, this is my first post, obviously.
I've just registered hoping to find an answer to a jammed car lock. More precisely, my car, unfortunately.

I think someone screwed with it. The key enters the lock and i can rotate it clockwise to lock the car (the hazards flash), but if i try to turn it counter clockwise, i can't. It's stuck at the middle, in the center position, from where i can only turn it clockwise.

If anyone can tell me a possible solution or where can i post this problem, it would be much appreciated.

You should call a locksmith, there is something broken in your lock.
We can´t discuss auto locks in the open forum, sorry.

I can't go into the details of the lock mechanism of car locks due to site rules. But it is likely that since the key will turn in one direction, it may be able to turn in the other direction, but is being prevented from doing so by the linkage or the latch mechanism.

Yes, it is very possible the problem is due to they key or lock itself, but with the description you give, in my job as an automotive mechanic, I see those symptoms more with bent linkage or failing latches 10 times for every time it is directly lock related. Usually, if it is lock or key related, it will at least bind a little going the other way. Caveat: I am not a locksmith, but while I may be wrong, I have fixed cars at dealerships for years.

By the way, if this car has a split wafer (sidewinder) key, it can more easily be the lock or key.
