No, not a test, I hate thought experiments. I mentioned no jimmy proof locks either because their cylinder is built in, so I cant install the ones in the keyway the owner wants.

Here's the story.

This is for a liquor store. Employees are putting product on the back steps to be picked up by friends or after work without paying, the door to the alley/dumpster only has slide bolts. Owner wants it to be a keyed lock so they cannot open the door and put product outside.

The other 3 doors and office door are all ASSA Twin that I installed years ago and he wants the same keyway for the back door, I only have that in Rim/Mortise cylinders right now, so I can only think of doing DETEX which uses rim or a LORI which uses mortise.

Only OTHER thing I can think of is to get an Alarm Lock surface mount alarm with mortise cylinder ON/OFF/RESET function. http://www.qualitydoor.com/alarm-lock-p ... 91306.html

They will be able to open the door in case of emergency, but then the alarm will beep very loudly all day long until reset with a key, and hopefully that deters passing expensive product out the back door.

Thanks for the explanation. It helps when we are not wandering around in the dark. The technical angle alone is not sufficient to answer the whole question.

Go with a strong panic bar for safety purposes. Add a Detex or Alarmlock exit alarm. Add a hidden camera. Prosecute the SOB that opens the door without a legitimate emergency for criminal conspiracy and embezzelment. Then prosecute him again with some vicegrips.

Go with a delayed egress exit device, 15 second delay tied into a CCTV camera.

The bar when pushed will trigger an alarm but won't release immediately. The trigger can also trigger a camera which will record the activity at the door. After 15 seconds the door will release but the alarm will continue until someone with the key turns it off.

It will be ties into the fire alarm so that egress is immediate if the fire alarm is triggered. You will meet all US fire codes and it will deter theft.

Alarm Lock DL700 with your cylinder will take care of things. No need for outside control or mounting.

Have you considered just a simple camera? You can get a simpler set really cheap in the local equivalent of home depot, I know, not much, but as I gathered the aim is not high security here but primarily deterrent. Even a cheap camera could do that plus you can actually catch the liquor thief red handed putting an end to this stealing once and for all.

why not simply
drill the inside of door as normal, drill the bolt as normal
get some female bolts of the right size, stick them thru the screw holes in the bolt
install the bolt, install the inside cylinder as normal.

Code violation. Assuming this person considers the codes. You will have several codes to deal with, ADA codes, Life Safety codes and Fire codes. If the door is Fire Rated putting any hole over the specified diameter will void the Fire Rating. Any hardware put on the door has to be Fire Rated, not just locks but peep holes, closers etc.

I agree that it would be a code violation. Except that. With a building with enough existing emergency exits. covering the area this door does. As per inspection by a building inspector. In which case the door can be deadlocked. As it isn't a "defined" exit. therefore not a door for all intents and purposes.
...all at the building inspectors whim.
...but anything is possible with determination. And a willingness to work a work around.
