Hi,

I have been browsing the forums for 4 days now and what a wealth of information! (I thank you all) I decided to get a 5 peice picking set from airpistol.co.uk and it arrived today On that note i managed to pick my first lock, which was my bike padlock within a very short period of time, i was expecting it to take alot longer! I better get along to the local diy store and get myself a selection of locks to practice with.

Howdy all- I'm new to the group, newish to the sport, but looking to go to a lockpick event, whichever one is best. Anyone have an opinion/know anything about the Dutch Open vs. the German Championships?

I am from Austria / Vienna.
My Dad is a Locksmith and that opened my interest in Lockpicking and other methods to Open locks and other locked stuff.

So far i picked several locks from different manufacters like EVVA, GEGE, KKL and others. I also make most of the "nightcall Jobs" for my Dad.

My personal interest is going towards Safe opening and High Security Systems.... hope i get it sorted

About the tools i use: I made all Picks and some other tools myself, wasnt really a problem, cause i am a educated "Werkzeugmacher" ... hmm .. in english maybe called Toolmaker?

Anyway, just my introducion to the community, and i hope i can get a good part of it.

Been a member for a little while... meant to say hello earlier

New to locks and locksmithing. Interested in picking as an intellectual pursuit mainly but seem to be finding a deeper interest in the engineering and mechanisms of locks... Seems there are many truths about security to be learnt from a cursory examination of standard mechanisms...

I'm totaly new into locksmithing. I decided that I want to learn about the trade as a hobby, and maybe make a few dollars on the side once I start getting decent. I found this site a few days ago and have been reading it sence. Thursday I purchased my first set of picks (Southord) from the shop link. I picked my first lock here tonight in under 2 minutes (an old cheap-o cash box my wife and I have, which we lost the keys to). How exciteing it was to see it open.. and there was money inside!

So, with the new found cash, we went to Walmart and I bought a few locks to practice with. A Master lock (I belive it is a #5, stamped above the key slot) and a Brinks R70.

I really look forward to learning from all the information posted here and I will be posting with questions and maybe answers in the future.

you're having better luck than me. I've got a couple of padlocks. Two small luggage ones that pop open with no effort, and a big padlock I haven't been able to do anything with.

The shape of the keyhole on the big padlock gets in the way of trying to access the pins, and I can't really get a good feel. I can't tell whether the pins are hard to push because my pick is just getting stuck on some corner of the Loc.

What's more, it's a four pin, and the middle two pins want to be set first
