Brinks 45mm

Postby trifixion » 14 Oct 2008 12:25

Alright I am new to this forum and not really sure where to post this cause I have a question...but its about a lock lol. I recently bought a pair of locks from wal-mart and I went with brinks cause well they are a well known lock maker and I have already picked every master lock I have come across. On the bottom of the lock it says Brinks on one end and 45mm on the other. it basically looks like http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product. ... id=8251834 accept without a longer shackle. I have picked everything else ive come across but for the last 2 and a 1/2 weeks ive gotten nowhere on this lock...any advice/experience would be greatly appreciated I wanna pick it so I can move on. Thank you in advance. (and sorry if I did anything wrong just lemme know and I will make sure not to do it again in the future)

im no expert with locks (i just joined recently too), but if you cant get it open you should keep in mind that their might be a security pin in there, most likely a spool pin. if you dont know what that is you should check out the MIT Guide to Lockpicking thats where i learned ;)

just a question, is there ever a point where you can get it to turn like its opening but it stops and gets stuck? say like 10~15 degree turn?

it doesn't turn any more then I can turn it before i start pickin it. From the looks of it when i keep tension and look inside it looks like all the pins are set but it doesn't open

When you say it looks like all the pins are set. What exactly do you mean ?

Do you get any feedback from the lock when you try picking it ? Does it give a small click or anything when you try each pin ?

You could look at the cuts on the key and get an idea of how high you need to lift each pin.
Does the key look like the cuts are very high or very low ?

I pull out my pick and look inside it looks like all the pins are set. Sometimes the pins click but the pins are very loose compared to the locks i've picked before. most of the pins are cut high only 1 of them is low

This is the exact position I am in. I have picked a few different locks with spool pins and have gotten OK at those, but for some reason this lock seems to be really tough. All the pins seem to be set, but nothing at all happens. I think that this lock has a few, or all serrated pins...

anyone have any advice on techniques for serrated pins?

I know this is an old post but i've recently been practicing on this lock and just wanted to say a few things. This was one of the first locks i tried after getting good with master locks. It's definitely an interesting lock and i'm pretty sure it's full of serrated pins because they don't act like normal spool pins. A lot of false feedback and after setting 2 or 3 pins everything just seems to lock up in false set and none of the pins will move any further. I basically gave up on the first try. Later i was able to pop it open in a few seconds when i discovered the trick to this lock. With very light tension and a short hook I just push in the pin second from the back and it pops open easily. You have to use just the right amount of tension and hit the pin just the right way but this may be the easiest lock ever. I'm sure other brinks 45mm locks have different high lows but i dunno. I did find a youtube video with a guy opening his the same way and he described it as the farthest back pin. Maybe we got lucky and had only one high set with the rest lows? I would like to know if anybody knows more about what kind of pins are in this lock. Mine is a newer model with a longer shackle from walmart. Anybody?
