I figure a lot of people here know a lot about locks, not only picking them. I bought this old bag with a combination lock. I've got the code, but since I don't use it that often, I'd like to change the combination to one that I'll remember more easily.
I have no idea how to reset the code here or if it's even possible.
I can't get to the back of the lock without damaging the case's lining.
I don't have much experience with this type of lock, and I can't find a way to reset the code. Perhaps I'm overlooking some simple solution. I know some briefcase locks are reset by pushing the lever in the opposite direction from opening, this does not work here; the lever will only go in the unlocking direction (when in "opening position" dials won't turn).

I swear on these you keep the button pushed over and dial in the new combo, then you release the button.. does your slide over or press in only? let me dig something up..
could your reset button be under the fabric? can you feel for one? do this.. open the lock, now dial to another number.. now feel around the inside of the lock for a reset button under the fabric. feel anything sticking out as you feel around the back or sides of the lock? now, dial the correct numbers, and go back to that spot and see if it lets you press it in now. if it does, press and hold it, and dial a new number.
Use a paper clip to push into one of those holes. That should do it. That is an older method of changing combos, but it does show up from time to time.

Just when you finally think you have learned it all, that is when you learn that you don't know anything yet.
I had a similar lock on a little chest I had years ago.
To set a new combination, you had to open the lock, then push the 'button' in the opposite direction that you would to open it. Hold, and turn to new combo. Upon releasing the new combination was set.
I had the same problem, couldn't find the answer here or at another site.
but i figured it out by using a little information from both sites.
first of all put in the correct combination set now. Mine was 0-0-0 then move, and keep, the latch button all the way to the open position.
then take a screwdriver and press that plate inside the latch, the one with the hole in it.
then change the combination to the new combination.
you are going to have to use your thumb and index finger to change the combination because one has to keep the latch open while the other is changing the lock.
