Online locksmith classes?

I was looking into ashworth college online locksmkthimg program. I was wondering if anyone has taken this program and had info on whether it is good or not?

I have taken that course, but I will tell you now that your best beat is Foley Belsaw. They are state certified. I found out the hard way trying to get my license in TN. Both Ashworth and Penn Foster are not approved courses for most states if they require locksmith training.

A pretty good intro course online is on youtube. Check this: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBDpLXSbLHkPVocZgMuBTMw. Also register to do the Assa Abloy online university which is FREE. You can learn a ton there. Additionally, they will send you a student ID card. I have been using mine liberally to get discounts at all possible times.

As far as I know...If the state, county, and town the work will be done in do not require a license then yes anyone can advertise and work as a locksmith. Some states don't have locksmith laws but, certain counties/towns within the state will pass their own licensing laws. It's important to check the laws on all levels.

I saw this post and got me interested in getting a certificate out of all this hard work. The problem is will the military TA cover any of the online courses that I have ran across ncluding the ones mentioned above?

A bit of a long shot if anyone has information that could help out that's a very much Tango Mike.

The province I live in , Ontario Canada does not require locksmith permits.

Are there any states that issue permits to out of state locksmiths after passing tests.

I asked for info, but was Required to give my phone number. 30 seconds after completing the request for info, I got a phone call from them! I felt that was way too pushy and told them so!

Same with Ohio, and yes. We have a lot of problems with "Gypsy" call skimmers who have an 800 number and advertise all different communities. They lowball estimates, send someone out who drills out your lock and charges you $400.

One thing i can say positive about the ashworth course over one of the other big online courses is that they at least attempt to get you doing stuff hands on. As part of the course you receive lock cylinders, re-pinning kits, pick sets and if you graduate a key cutting machine. The other big course was only theory based.
