Just researching Double sided picks like as seen: www.lockpickshop.com/DSS-4.html?kbid=54644In the description it mentions: "Hate to get called out to open a disc tumbler lock, such as those used to secure display cases in jewelry stores?" It seems to me that "disc tumbler cam locks" use a wafer system, like as seen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fst5X5LAWw8Why are they not just "wafer locks"? Whats the difference between these locks, "commonly used to secure display cases" and regular old wafer locks? They don't have the rotating discs I would regularly associate to a disc lock... Thanks!

I saw those listed a while ago and had the same question about it but forgot to ask. I think they might be incorrectly listed. The single reviewer says "unlike the description might suggest, these are for wafer tumbler locks, and not for rotating disk tumbler locks." hmmmmmm

Great catch, I guess I'm a little "review" blind. Funny though, as a quick Google search for "disc tumbler cam lock" shows page after page of what appears to be wafer locks. Is this just poor usage of terminology across the board, or is there something different between a typical wafer lock and these? https://www.google.ca/webhp?sourceid=ch ... cam%20lock

Wafer locks are also called disc tumbler locks.

It's easy to confuse "disc tumbler" with "disc detainer."

Not really. If someone says they have a Hudson, Pundra, National, Kenstan, Chicago disc tumbler lock nobody is going to think it is a disc detainer lock. AFAIK only Abloy makes disc detainer cabinet locks.

So does AVA. (Have a couple of those cam locks).

OK, but I have never run into one in the field here in the USA. So the chances of confusing a disc tumbler lock with a disc detainer are pretty marginal and more a matter of semantics. Visually the two types aren't even close. In the USA where the term disc tumbler is used the chances of running into disc detainer locks on cabinets and the like are slim, as I said I've seen Abloy but rarely.

Cledry, Fully agree with you about the two types of locks not being easily confused. Just mentioning that there is at least one other brand of disc detainer cam lock besides Abloy. Gordon

I withdraw my comment, as I misspoke. I meant to say that sometimes I confuse the name "disc tumbler" and "disc detainer," and not the locks themselves; this also shouldn't be too hard to remember the different names, but alas sometimes it evades me. My apologies!
