Whats a good plug spinner?

Postby Cman22 » 22 Oct 2004 16:31

Hey i have two questions for this post. I have a balwin deadbolt practice lock that i have been picking. It seems that the pins are easier to feel when turning the the tension the wrong way. I can't feel any pin resistence while turning the right way. Is one reason to buy a plug spinner to open it the easy way then flip the plug the other way?

Also, would the southord A-5 plug spinner be a good purchase for $19? http://southord.com/images/fullsize/a5-pgs.jpg If you reccomend another brand please tell me.

Thanks :D ,
Cman

There are some reviews on this site about the Rytans. Sounds like a good buy from their opinions.

Order the Rytan RY5798 pocket plug spinner from Rytan for $9.99 direct from them. Its more then effective enough for every lock I've used mine on. Not to mention its got the best price to feature value on the market.

You can order from Rytan.com unless they have a professional locksmith clause - I didn't check. Otherwise google.com will help you in your quest.

Actually anyone can order the plug spinner from Rytan.com directly, without being a locksmith. I ordered mine completely admitting I was a hobbyist. They only ship UPS so its all good. You just cannot order lockpicks from them.

Do you order it offline or send in the order form you print off at rytan.com
If you can get it off the internet please tell me how.

I ordered it form Rytan!!! I can't wait to get it. Do they process their shipments quickly or does it get shipped after a week or so?

Most people know what my answer would be, but just in case....

HPC Flip-IT. The things costs a fair amount, but I can't imagine ever needing another plug spinner.

Both of the Rytan's are incredibly good deals though, and seem to be excellent products. Either of their spinners will serve you well.

I just recently upgraded my crappy plug spinner: http://southord.com/images/fullsize/a5-pgs.jpg with the Rytan ry57. That's the full size version. I ordered it 2 days ago, and when it gets here I intend to test it on locks that i was previously not able to spin with my current plug spinner. I'll report back with the results, a little extra review never hurts.

Ok - reporting back now. Best plug spinner i've tried yet. I have yet to have a spin fail, and that includes gummy pin tumbler locks in handle, with loose plugs as well.

I would recommend this plug spinner to anyone whos looking to buy one.

I guess i'll add before this thread dies that the best place to insert a plug spinner is the center of the keyway. If you insert the plug psinner farthest from the pins where your tension wrench would normally go you don't get the speed/leverage as you would if you were to put it in the center. Just thought i'de throw that out there, maybe someone will find it useful.
