I found this technique called rake walking and have had great success.

3-Pin - 3 2 3 1 1 ( 89%)

Ok, so if I read this correctly.. On a 3 pin lock I would start at Pin 3 and rake, if the lock doesn't open, I would move to pin 2 and rake and if there is no success then move back to pin 3 .. so on and so on ..

and if I follow these sequence of raking I will be able to open this lock 89% of the time (assuming perfect tension on the lock)..

I would be curious to see what the percentage is if you rake 5x from pin 3..
When I finally leave this world.. Will someone please tell my wife what I have REALLY spent on locks ...

The idea is that it takes less time and you wont over set pins. On 5 pin locks I find that 5 3 2 5 works very very well opening most master locks before i get back to 5.

If we assume the above model to be correct, then simply raking from the back repeatedly is not very effective.

This is a novel concept however it appears false seeing as how even in the simulated results the first 1-3 rakes are from the furthest pin. To disprove this hypothesis even more in at least two of the cases the furthest pin is the pin 'rakewalked' from 4/5 times.

Code: Select all
 Best 5x Rakewalking Combos:

    3-Pin - 3 2 3 1 1 ( 89%)
    4-Pin - 4 4 3 4 1 ( 72%)
    5-Pin - 5 5 4 2 5 ( 55%)
    6-Pin - 6 6 6 4 6 ( 36%)

Best 10x Rakewalking Combos (random mode):

    3-Pin - 3 3 2 2 3 2 1 1 2 3 (100%)
    4-Pin - 4 2 4 3 1 4 2 3 4 1 (100%)
    5-Pin - 5 5 2 4 5 3 1 2 5 4 ( 93%)
    6-Pin - 6 6 4 6 3 1 5 4 2 6 ( 73%)

 Best 5x Upward Rakewalking Combos:

    3-Pin - 3 2 3 1 1 ( 92%)
    4-Pin - 4 4 3 4 1 ( 80%)
    5-Pin - 5 5 3 4 5 ( 67%)
    6-Pin - 6 6 6 4 6 ( 51%)
