Nice Master no. 6 I got at the flea market

Postby cheerIO » 23 Sep 2014 9:24

Picked this up at the flea market this weekend.

The guy that found it for me said he got it off an old army footlocker from a storage unit but doesn't have any idea of how old it is. At least it is old enough to be made in the USA. :D The brass must have a tonne of copper in it cause the whole thing is colored like a penny. It is super heavy too. Very noticeable. I weighed this and a modern steel M5 MasterLock that was a little bit bigger. The modern lock weighed 12.5 ounces and this thing weighed 16oz even! A full pound. It has a very strong shackle spring and a very smooth action opening and closing. This is, by far, the best feeling MasterLock I have in my collection. Even the outside of it is super smooth. And it has a sweet key to boot.

Too bad MasterLock doesn't make them like these anymore. :(

The key caught my eye also. It's a shame that modern manufacturers don't apply that degree of attention to detail and pride to their products.
-- I have a tendency to write hasp when I mean shackle. It's a bad habit, but I'm working on it one day at a time.

If you find my insistence that you pay me to do something unreasonable, you probably shouldn't be bothering me at work.

The No. 6 and No. 4 are quite nice to look at. Jealous of you having the original walking lion key. Very nice!

The Lion key is sweet. I would love to see a lion like that in real life though. He would have such stubby legs, it would look like a Corgie Lion. :D

And it would give us at least a chance of out running it if he decided he was hungry.
