(which would also be the type that would be more probable to not pay their rent). i've yet to give bumping a try, but i'd imagine it'd be easier to bump than a padlock. not to mention that i'm sure even low level street thugs know about raking.
did they let you keep the cylinder or is the customer's lock added to the door in addition to the storage place's lock?
That's definitly one of the angles they're working. Also, while existing tenants weren't charged for the cylinder, new tenants will be forced to buy it from PS for $12 and change. So yes, it's ours to keep.
It is a six pin lock, but the tolerances are exactly what you would expect from a twelve dollar lock. The good thing is that I can add my own lock. My guess is their intent is to continue to use Diskus locks to lock out late payers. While not there intent, I'll just hook my model 24 through the lockout loop.
-- I have a tendency to write hasp when I mean shackle. It's a bad habit, but I'm working on it one day at a time.
If you find my insistence that you pay me to do something unreasonable, you probably shouldn't be bothering me at work.
i knew they sold padlocks and was wondering what they'd be doing to make up for the money lost in padlock sales, now every unit rented is a frigging lock sale! at least padlocks are easily reusable for people that buy them. i'd say your average customer would have no need for that lock what-so-ever and would just leave it there. assuming it's a standard size it'd be worth the price to get a couple buddies to go in on a unit and a high security cylinder just to teach them a lesson. a locksmith is way more expensive then running an angle grinder for a few seconds maybe leave them a pretty sign for when they open the door and realize that they just had to pay for a locksmith to come out and service the lock and there's nothing to recoup the money with.
The small children of my Sister (4, 6 yrs) put them together like that so I found it a practical way picking Padlocks attached to something (which is alot harder than having it free in the hand) Additionalially its all again a new challenge every day to open all/some of them and if you got stuck on one you turn over to the second one
btw. that *****ing Abus 72/40 is still not open ^^ raked it yesterday open in less than 15 sec's wanted to retry ... no way so it was pure Luck, next time it's open i'll gutt it and remove 2 of the spools...
so while i was looking through my father's desk for a pen earlier i happened upon a carabiner with a sesame lock on it that was stuck in the unlocked position. didn't have any shims on me at the time, but no probs, all i had to do was push down on the lock and i could both hear and feel the wheels lock into place. as for picks, it's ssdd so far, master no. 3, master no. 140, small stanley 30mm, master 6835, and a brinks 462-42051. monday i'm getting an american 1105 then tuesday i'm getting a master 410 (and a bench vise). i can't wait to post those in this thread, i'm really excited to try my hand at serrated and sporated pins.

Good luck lol... You're going to need it with the serrated pins there buddy... -tips hat down-
After a few months really, really busy with work and college I indulged in some locks. Finally bought the master combination padlock (I've been wanting one for years, they are really cool and I just found a hardware store nearby that has started selling master padlocks) and a standard standers pin tumbler lock I got to replace the TE5 (I had to give it to my mother in an emergency to replace a lock that was broken, I really miss it). I'm digging this "Having a job and being able to pay for your hobby without having to save for 4 months" thing so far!
The master combination padlock was disappointingly easy to open, took me two or three minutes in my first try, but it is really fun. It may sound silly but I really like turning dials. Maybe I'll get a safe lock next!
The other lock is pretty much the standard stuff, no security pins anywhere (As you expect from a 10€ lock) I got it with the intention of bringing it to the hackerspace and try making custom security pins. And maybe work on the body with a mill and see if I can make something cool!

You would have a great deal of fun with a decent safe lock.
Maybe, for the right offer, I'd trade and send you one. If you have something to trade that might be worth it (or want to open negotiations on a trade), PM me.

Just when you finally think you have learned it all, that is when you learn that you don't know anything yet.

lol, i await my trial by fire with great excitement!
not much of a pick but i found an old single lever lock in my dad's things. i had to take it apart because the keyway was blocked by something on both sides. apparently somebody tried to pick it at some point in time with a q-tip and had pushed the lever so hard that it was off the spring (the spring isn't attached to the lever). after they got it unlocked they jammed a bunch of paper and something sticky into the keyway. after removing the q-tip and putting everything back in place i couldn't help but pick it. i want more lever locks now >_>
omfg most challenging pick yet! i just popped the 1105. 4 days worth of picking. in the end i had to take it down to a 3 pinner in order to learn what they feel like when they set then i was able to take it back up to 5 and got it in a few hours. wow it's easy to over set them, i find it helps if you increase the tension between serrations so you can feel the plug turn easier. i'm sure that as i get used to serrated pins that will go away. now to keep practicing on the 1105 until i can get it picked reliably then move on to the master 401.

That seems like it would be an awesome challenge to give to a fellow picker. Like, put easier locks towards the outside and as you get further in they get harder and harder haha. Really cool picture btw.
I picked my easier locks today, a Brinks 161 4 pin and my Master No. 3. For some reason I just can't seem to pick my harder locks, even though I have before. Just one of those days I guess...
Raked that Nasty Abus open once and never again...
Also got some 4-5 pin Cylinders with what feels like spools and everything without security pins is falling quite fast at the moment. Our commissioning crew is just now on their way to sort their padlocks (they use the same locks on every site to lock valves and cabinets in operation, and obviously they keep the locks and keys separately so by the end of the week I will have around 40-70 Padlocks of mixed sizes and brands to play with just need to pay the weight as scrap metal
btw I just love my tiny 3 Pin Abus lock it just gives that nice and crisp feedback!

i'm digging my LOTO's, the master 410 in particular. the one i happen to have received is bitted something like 676227 (not positive on the exact bitting as i don't have access to a micrometer nor a codebook) and pin 5 is always the last bindr and feels like a serrated pin making it a booger and a half to pick. sounds like fun, i'm very jealous
