Help with lock?

Postby joshc » 17 Nov 2014 23:14

Hi I am new to this forum! I was wondering if somebody could point me in the right direction with picking this lock. I'm sure it's much more complicated than I realise, but I don't even know where to begin. Any help is appreciated! Picture of lock:

That lock is in use, we do not practice our hobby on locks that are in use or belong to someone else. Is that your cabinet? What's in it?

The cabinet is in my garage. It has sets of calipers, drill bits and other tools that my dad needs for work. My dad misplaced the keys almost a month ago now. If it is a wafer lock, how would we go about getting into it? Thanks for the replies!

Call a locksmith...

However... If it's a very cheap lock, you can try pulling it very hard. On some cabinets this bends the latch enough to let you open it and replace the lock. Chances are that it will just break and make it harder to get into if you do this though, so it's probably a bad idea :P

Seriously though, call a locksmith.

Aright, this is a wafer, so you must be careful as these tend to break easier than your standard pin and tumbler locks. i'd start with a rake and apply gentle to moderate pressure with yer tension wrench. Start with your bogota (or your preferred rake) and gently go in and out and try to set most to the shear line, be very gentle because the last thing that you want to do is bend your wafers and break the lock. If the latter doesn't work try spp if you know how to do that. Wafer locks aren't usually high security and shouldn't be too hard to get open. just have some fun experimenting and you will have it open in no time :D
I may be dumb..... but I ain't stupid

Either break it by just forcing it open because you;re never going to lock it again or get a locksmith to make you a key because you want to continue locking it. What would be the point of you picking it? You going to pick it every time?

@ggpaintballer: There are usually screws to take them off on the back, so picking it can let you take it off.
