Question on Abloy Classic discs.

Postby cheerIO » 24 Jan 2015 18:20

I recently got a used Abloy re-keying kit and have some questions on the different discs in the kit. The discs are 11.8 mm:

My first question is, is there a difference between the discs with the square cut in them as opposed to the round cut?

I know that early Abloys had a round sidebar and the later ones have gone to an L-shaped sidebar that can't be pulled. Are the round cuts only for the round sidebars? In looking at Gordon's post about re-keying the Abloy, he seems to have both cuts. But the square cuts seem to be on the ends. I can't test to see if the square ones have enough clearance because I have a cam lock that is missing its sidebar. Does anyone have the diameter of the sidebar for this lock?

Question 2: Is the bottom left disc for the bottom of the stack? If so, why the second cut that would clear the sidebar when in the locked position?

Question C: Am I correct in labeling the other two "closest to the bow"? Why is one brass? Why the second cuts?

I believe my kit is complete, I have the spacers and the locking springs for the ends of the plugs. Just that I seem to have 1/3 the amount of the square cut discs compared to the round hole ones.

You may find this Han Fey Abloy paper very useful: https://toool.nl/images/5/58/Abloy.pdf

That looks great. I'll read over it tonight.

Thanks. :D

Usually you can use both types of discs (with round or square cut), there is enough room. Sometimes using old and mixed parts makes opening sticky. I have used a round file on the slots to make the lock work smooth.
I think the 2-cut discs can be used on a reverse-cut (mirror image) Classics. Those are rare.
The key cuts, and discs, are from zero to five. 0=uncut, 5=90degrees. So a random keycode would look like this: 052240230
There are 3 sizes of Abloy Classic discs. You can´t flip the discs around on other sizes. For example there are separate discs for 2 and 3 cuts.
