What is this used for? o.O

Postby LinZex » 23 Mar 2015 14:39

Hi, I'm just starting out lockpicking as a hobby, and got my picks in the mail today (I got a cheap 9pcs set from China) containing 9 picks and a tension wrench, mostly just the curved picks for SPP, and a half diamond like one, but no rakes, instead i get this thing. I have never in my life seen a pick like this either in real life or in a video, this is a completely alien pick to me, it looks kind of like they tried to make some kind of rake, but messed it up and made it flat. my first thought was "if I'm ever gonna be able to use this thing advantagiously in a lock, i might as well put my pinkie in there and lift the pins.

So please tell me, what is this used for?

That's a dimple lock rake.

For locks such as this Mul-T-Lock Garrison 7x7

The key cuts are on the wide flat of the key, unlike a typical USA lock such as a Schlage or Kwikset which are cut on the thin part of the key blade.

Now that you mension it, it does look a little big, the pick (part that goes in the keyway) is around 3 - 3,5 mm wide (not actually measured, jost guessed) and around maybe between 12 - 15 cm long with the handle.
