Maybe that's why mine don't work very well, because my peaks aren't well defined?
Back on topic, that's too bad. Maybe there should be a good/bad business list. I think I've seen something like that before on here.
he's not bumping 20 customer doors like a locksmith might every day or week..
wait... I didn't think locksmiths usually bumped locks. @ victorylocksmith Do you do it as part of your business?
you know, a lot of old school locksmiths will frown on me for using bump keys, but i really dont care. when i need to get into a place for work and i need to get into it fast, i really dont have time to be SPP locks. as squelchtone has stated before, this is a site primarily for hobbyists so maybe they have lots of time to pick open locks. as for me, if i have to spend more than 15 minutes picking a lock, i personally consider that a failure. my service call always includes either the first rekey or first 15 minutes of labor and if i cant get it open without drilling it in that time, then the price jumps up around $20 ever 15 minutes. so taking that into consideration and how pissed people can get for being billed a crapload of money i would just rather bump the lock until it opens.
i know, i can usually open 95% of the locks out there that i have key blanks to and can code cut within at most 10 minutes with a bump key. usually it takes between literally 15 seconds and 5 minutes to get a lock open. in short, i dont have time to waste and SPP like hobbyists do at home. i need to be quick and efficient and dont have time for that. that doesnt mean that you cant be badass and SPP locks super fast but, that takes a lot of time and practice and quite frankly i havent got to that point. even so, i would much rather learn about access control products and other things than just SPP for hours and hours.
as for what squelchtone says for lock bumping and how it doesnt wear down the key that quickly, it really depends on the lock. but i can say for certain, they do wear out fast and if you actually plan on bumping locks consistently, then you need to buy a code machine. i find that on some harder locks to bump, ill trash a key on just one of those. and given some easier ones, i can make them last forever, i mean ive had my fair share of locks that i can open in just one bump. however, my point being is this, the moment that key starts to twist and become wrecked is when it loses a significant amount of effectiveness and if you are trying to bump a hard lock. it can take exponentially more time because every time you hit it, it gets even worse.
