I was gifted a box of door knobs I think they are commercial grade Corbin model 88's from the 70's, they are heavy. They have no keys I can't seem to do very well with the Sparrows shallow hook, the keyway is though. Do I need to get a thinner pick or is it possible to pick them with that? Also what do you know about these locks?

Thank you,

Dave

What do you want to know. They are built like tanks. You disassembled more than you needed to. Remove one screw and loosen the other pull the knob off. Pop the inner knob scalp off and remove the large snap ring, pull the outer spindle away and the cylinder comes right out. Remove the small snap ring and make a key.

That was just what I needed Jim, I had pried pretty hard on the scalp and it didn't come loose, so after this advice I pried harder and off it came. These knobs were stored in a barn for several years and are sticky I'll disassemble this one and see whats in it. Do you recognize the keyway?

Thank you,

Dave

Looks like one of the 59 sectional keyways (59A1, A2 etc)

This is what I found after disassembling it.http://imgur.com/tt0qLOG This knob is keyed on both sides I will post pics of the other side later when disassemble it. Not sure whats going on here. Only three chambers had pins, the retaining cap has signs of hammering on it, the core looks like it has light filing marks and the bb's.

THis is the other side of the knob that was keyed on both sides, more like what I'm used to seeing. http://imgur.com/LUUBN1Q

Corbin liked to use ball bearings for wear resistance on keys.
Filing is the mark of an amateur who had the wrong pins and filed them down to size :/
