good lord that was funny... I was laughing and the wife asked what was funny so I showed her the picture and read your description... She had a look on her face like I was nuts!!

I then had to describe to her how an IC works with a shear line to open (turning the plug) and the control shear line (turning the control sleeve) She still had the look like I was nuts and it was almost as hilarious as the pic... ok, I guess you had to be there


Still one of the funnies pics and explanations I have seen on here..

While you're right--it isn't a direct rule--it is typical that the control key will be keyed higher than an OP key. This is to prevent someone from grinding down an OP key and creating a control key (or any other higher key). This practice is typically used within the full coding hierarchy, so OPs can't also be made into submasters or masters. This doesn't always apply to every pin stack, but at least one and usually two.
