Where do people get all the neat little stands for their locks and cylinders? I really would like to start picking with the tension wrench and a pick instead of holding the lock too... I can't figure out the correct search I've tried and it pulls up a neat garage sale find when I search lock stand...
it would probably help us answer your question if you showed us a photo or a link to the kind of stand you're talking about. Some are made by lock manufacturers and meant to stand on a counter at a locksmith shop and demo a particular lock, those things end up on ebay and the hobbyists here buy them, some are made by companies like Southord to practice picking and include some cylinders, but many are made by people who are hobbyists, out of scrap wood, to imitate a lock mounted in a real door.
you may get better search results if you look up a "lock picking practice board" Squelchtone
It was in a video by a guy named bosnianbill on youtube
Here's the link... I tried google also and can't seem to find one I like... Might just have to hit harbor freight this afternoon and see what I can find...

Thanks for the quick reply also.
Yep, we all know bosnianbill here =) he might even be a member, I'm not sure. Here's a thread that should give you some ideas, but I dont think you'll find 2x4's and plywood at Harbor Freight, that's more of a trip to Home Depot of Lowes. viewtopic.php?f=9&t=55957
Harbor freight does have a hobby vice with a vacumm bottom. I use that one personally and find it totally acceptable for picking. It even comes with rubber grippers to prevent crushing what you're working on.

ohhhh is that what OP meant? a vise? I heard stand and ran with it as being a wooden lock board.
I bought 2 used PanaVise's on Ebay. There are listed pretty regularly. If you can't find one with a round tray base, make one out of wood, use a router to cut a holding tray and mount the vise to it. I did that with one of mine. There are several brands of hobby vise's. Should be able to find a nice one fairly cheap.
Thanks everyone for the replys... And yeah moose got what I was looking for... The panavise was what I was looking for... But if I actually get more locks I'd do the lock stand like you guys ,squelchtone and paces, suggested...
I just used an old computer desk and made a display board with a couple screws. I used a doorknob drill kit purchased at Home Depot to mount the locks. It doesn't look the best but it gets the job done. I would love to score one of the display stands that they have at Home Depot/ Lowes, but I can't find any anywhere.
Its best to build your lock stand out of a board with the same thickness as any regular door, this way any door lock will be easy to just screw in and replace. your going to need the right size hole saws to, they usually have the sizes and distances needed to properly mount a knob/deadbolt with the packaging of the lock you just fold it over the door on the dotted line and drill the big one for the knob first. Easy as pie my friend easy as pie.
