Schlage A & W locks

Hi all, does anyone have info on the pick set for the schlage wafer locks (called I think A & W type) of about 20-30 years ago? Recently came across some here down under and as I operate a small maintenance business including basic locksmithing would like to know more about these... Any help appreciated. Cheers loosenut68

They pick super easy using a half diamond. They do make dedicated picks for them. There are two sets, a right hand set and a left hand set, to compensate for the two ways the key can be bent.

If you need blanks, let me know. Have a fair few of them.

Hi Gordon thanks for your reply. I can get the blanks and possibly make a pick set to save time when having to deal with them again or is plain picking just as quick? However, I need details of the commercial pick set hopefully then make my own... Having said that I would really like to get my hands on an old lock to practise etc etc.... Cheers Mark (Loosenut)

Would not mind getting ahold of one for my collection, either. But picking is pretty easy.

The old A line wafer disc locks are pretty much all gone. I haven't seen one in ages, although I do still have a few of the combo units here for teaching purposes. At this time I would say your chances of running into on on a door still in use are slim to none. I sitll carry a small kit in the truck if ever needed -- but it has been over 15 years since I ran into one.

Picking these is easy. Turn in either direction and just rake one side then the other. All you need to do is pull in the combo discs, and the "master" at the nose.

Thanks for info Sinifar. Beleive it or not here down under I have a block of units and every second occupants door still has one of these locks.... Unfortunately, I dont have lock that I can practise on etc but Im trying to visualise what your saying about "pull in the combo discs and master" and then put that together with the pick set i have seen for sale for these locks and try to get a feel of how to pick etc etc in my head. cheers
