I recently picked up a "Barricade: by Yale" dead bolt from the hardware store, can anyone give me any indication as to the difficulty of this lock? I know I have heard that yales can be challenging, but this one was kind of cheap, is it a lower grade of yale or what? The shalges and kwiksets were more or less all more expensive, maybe my hardware store just sells those at a higher price because they are more well known? If anyone could offer me their help it would be greatly appreciated.

Is it this?
It doesn't seem to have any security pins, just normal pins. All in all, probably just like a higher quality Kwikset deadbolt. Although I could easily be wrong. Haven't gotten any Yales to play with.

Yeah, as far as I can tell that is it. I took it apart and no, besides one of the top (driver?) pins it seems to be pretty normal. The one is kid of shaped like an "I" but I am not experianced to know if that is anything special or not. So how would you rate it? Harder than your standard kwikset? Shalge? Any opinions would be appreciated, this is my first REAL (real meaning not cheap 3 dollar) lock I have attempted to pick and I would like an indication of it's difficulty. Thanks!

That "I" pin would be a spool pin, a security pin. With the restrictive keyway, good machining, and a security pin, it is a step above your average Kwikset. Should be fun to pick.

Thank's so much for the advice. If I could bother you one more time, what is it that makes the spool pin harder?

When you push it up enough, the cylinder will rotate as if the pin has been picked, but in fact it hasn't. Look at the shape and think about it. If you still don't get it, it's readily available through the search button.
