Lock Pick Sets - Wholesale Purchase

Postby anuj291 » 10 Jan 2016 7:06

Hi

We are looking to establish an Ecommerce store and sell Lock Picking sets (To begin with)

Can someone advice on suppliers / manufacturers who can provide us the tools at good price.. We will be looking at purchasing 500 to 1000 sets of the product that we select.

Currently we are planning to import from china (either the klom / goso series) .

Would love some inputs

Thanks
Anuj

I'd look on alibaba. If you buy enough units they'll rebrand anything with your name/face on it.

Southern Specialties http://www.lockpicktools.com makes their own products.
So does Majestic. I have their contact info here somewhere but don't seem to have it on this computer.

Will you be seeking to buy picks that the maker has made or are you looking to have input into how you want them manufactored?

I ask because there are so many lockpicks being sold that are not much better than the common junk from Asia.

When I wanted to go into the lockpick business over 10 years ago (hence name of pickmonger or monger of picks) I talked with some asian suppliers.

They were able to supply picks made the way I wanted them designed BUT I couldn't handle the volume that I would have needed to bring the cost down to an affordable level. Not to mention the cost of tooling up and raw materials. etc etc.

Several people have tried to get a pick selling business going and it was a major flop Consider the market place challenges that sank the infamous Mr Towne and kickstarter.

You may or may not encounter some of the same financial "challenges" , supply problems and production issues.

Studying the business histories of Towne and several others even on lockpicking 101 that tried to create a pick business may save you a lot of grief. Does any one know what happened to Cliff Picks?

On the upside Sparrows, to name one, seems to have managed to make a go of it.

He did one very small production run of pre-sold picks, then folded.

Cool idea.

If i buy an item from the shop, where will it be send from?

The reason i ask is, that my home country has some stupid tax rules, regarding buying items from outside the EU :-(

Please make sure there is EU thin type picks as well :)

Hi _ apologies for the delayed reply...

Well i am looking for inputs on pre-made picks .. Someone who does actually produce quality output...

I am in the same boat and struggling to find a good high quality pick maker from china ... I can go into selling medium quality picks but that is not a long lasting business

Before I verifed you were not possibly a spammer, there was a reply from one of our members with contact information to Southern Specialties, who makes quality pick sets.

Hi - Thanks - I never thought through that the EU will have a different type of lock and hence a different pick set would be required...

i will certainly look into this...

Southern Specialties also has a line of "Euro" picks with thinner shafts for keyways with tight warding, as is often found in locks in Europe.
