Hello. This is my first post. I have been lock picking for 4 months now and I have tried to make a key using a micrometer and file.
I live near Toronto Ontario and I am wondering if anyone would know where to buy key blanks at a lower price than say Home Depot or Lowe's.
Thanks.

E-bay has lots of keys for sale, I actually bought 2,000 original kwikset keys last month, they were like .16 cents each, unfortunately now the mailman doesn't talk to me anymore (the box weighed like 80 pounds)

Thanks Bill.
I will definitely check that out. My first attempt at key making was close but I need more practice for sure.

Amazon too. I paid more than 0.16 each for sure, but I just got an order of KW1, SC1, and SC4 blanks (JMA) in lots of 50. Which for me may be a lifetime supply unless I find a really big pile of locks to impression.
The KW1 and SC1 were about ten bucks each and the SC4 double that.

CLK is decent but I am not a fan of the JMA blanks they sell. Try to get Jet or Ilco.

Hi to all who responded.
Thanks for the recommendations.
By the looks of the quantity of keys being purchased I am led to believe that I will not be making a good key in the near future.
How many attempts is considered normal for a newbie?

Depends on the type of lock, bitting of the key, your eyesight, and how you are learning.

Try ordering 800lbs of lead alloy and ask for it to be sent in smaller sizes on different days, then the guy uses medium flat rate boxes and ships them all on the same day! my mail man was not happy with me and said its the last time he would deliver 800lbs. The next time I would have to pick up from the post office..

I ordered a batch of kettlebell weights years ago - two 50 lb, two 35 lb, two 20 lb, two 15 lb, and two 10's. Needless to say, the rest of my mail was thrown at my door rather than put in the box that day .
